4-4-2 v 4-5-1

Fri Jan 02, 2015 10:24 pm

If Slade fails to see the dramatic collapse in our performance as soon as we switched to 4-4-2, we will continue to ship goals. First half, we were very lucky to go in 1-0 up at half time. Second half however, we completely controlled the game, scored 2 goals and must have had at least 70% of the possession. Colchester were chasing shadows and Whittingham had his best game for a while with an extra player in the middle of midfield with him.

As soon as we switched back to 4-4-2 however, the contrast in our performance was incredible. Colchester suddenly started coming at us and Freddy Sears capitalised on the open space left in our middle by scoring. If we had conceded a second goal, which we were extremely lucky not to, we could have easily thrown the game away.

Adeyemi gives us something we are lacking, pace, power, energy and drive from midfield, we have to keep playing him in a middle 3 with Gunnarsson and Whittingham imo. Ralls was given man of the match, but Adeyemi was the big plus for me tonight and he will get better and better the more we play him.

The obvious we have needed for weeks don't matter who we play they drop an extra man Into midfield and we will struggle.

Your right ,Whits dont have the legs to play in a 4 4 2, Adeyami helps big time with 3 in the middle :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

i think whitts covered an incredible amount of ground last night, he was playing in midfield and almost as a second striker chasing down the flanks and loose balls. cant knock whits every week guys.

Whits had a great game last night, but he's less affective with 2 in the middle :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Either us fans are stupid and don't know what we are on about or Slade is too stubborn to see what is going on in front of him. To me, you and so many others its been obvious we need that extra man in midfield as we are being dominated there. It would also take some of the pressure of Whitts and allow him to express himself more and also help with is controlling possession more.

While I agree with the points raised about 4-5-1 being better for our team and style of play, the other reason we played so badly in the 4-4-2 formation was that Le Fondre was out of position on the wing and Noone also out of position as a number 10. Then to make matters even worse we throw on Fabio out of position on the wing. Why do Young and Slade think they can change a players playing position when they have been playing in their proffered position for years? They play in that position because that is where they play best, yet these two keep trying to put square pegs into round holes. It's not rocket science and it just doesn't work. In the League Cup game Young had 3 out of position then slated Guerra for not playing well when he had no service. Will someone please tell them!
