" Sam Hammam speaks out about consortium "

Former Cardiff City owner Sam Hammam breaks silence amid rumours he will lead consortium to buy out Vincent Tan

There is little doubt Hammam is keen to see Cardiff return to playing in their traditional blue kit and revert to a badge with the bluebird more prominent.

Former Cardiff City owner Sam Hammam has opened up for the first time about mounting talk that he is planning to head up a consortium to buy the Bluebirds from Vincent Tan.

The Lebanese businessman has attended around 20 Cardiff matches this season, regularly making the 5,000-miles from trip from his home in Beirut to London and back.

His visits come as speculations grows in the Welsh capital about Hammam being at the forefront of a consortium looking to buy out Tan and instantly return Cardiff back to blue.

Hammam insisted the claims about his involvement were false, but he did predict that 2015 will be an “eventful” year for the club.

We understand Hammam has been in regular contact with Cardiff fans’ representatives and has sounded out whether he would be welcomed back by Bluebirds supporters at large after leaving the club under a cloud.

Although he might not be involved directly with any potential funding, it does seem certain Hammam would wish to play a part in finding new investment and be involved in the club again in some capacity.

Speaking to WalesOnline from Colorado, where he is on a skiing holiday, Hammam maintained: “I am not involved in any Cardiff City consortium. They don’t work when it comes to football clubs.

“That is wishful thinking by some people. I don’t know about any consortium and would be surprised if there was one. It’s not going to happen.”

He sparked major controversy by trying to rename the club 'Cardiff Celts' in a bid to get the whole of Wales behind the Bluebirds
Hammam previously sparked major controversy by trying to rename the club 'Cardiff Celts' in a bid to get the whole of Wales behind the Bluebirds

Hammam went on: “Vincent Tan and I have not spoken for ages,” before predicting: “I personally believe, but don’t know, that 2015 is going to be an eventful year for Cardiff City.

“I am in Colorado. I am not focused on the club right at the moment.

“But I have seen rumours that I was involved in a consortium and I did not want them to fester. They are not true.”

It is believed Tan could want up to £200m to sell the club, but he knows many supporters are angry with him over the rebrand from blue to red and are fed up with a style of football currently being played under Russell Slade.

Malaysian businessman Tan has made it clear he will not reverse the colour of the kit and is backing under-fire manager Slade, but there are unsettled times ahead for the Championship club.

There is little doubt Hammam is keen to see Cardiff return to playing in their traditional blue kit and revert to a badge with the bluebird more prominent.

Hammam himself considered a Cardiff rebrand when he was owner, but scrapped the idea when it became clear fans would not back him.

A bit of a non story really as Sam says it's his opinion but it does clear up he's not part of any consortium looking to buy the club.

Why would anyone want to buy a championship club for £100m+, which Tan would be looking for to recoup his loans to the club?

I honestly can't see where we go with us being a championship club and whilst we have this much debt.

So who are these fans representatives ?

He has not been in contact with me - just like Tan did not speak to me about the rebrand.

This is all that is wrong with Cardiff City - how many other clubs consult with a select few fans and make decisions based on that !

I will stick to watching Cardiff City the team I support not the chairman, not the life president through thick and thin because my team is my team !!

Why doesn't Sam just feck off. He nearly drove us out of existence yet now he is seen as some messiah, out of the frying pan in to the fire. This is the fella who held us to ransom with the cloak and dagger Langston shit.

Agreed, but no Sam for me.

Sam gave us this problem but he also gave us passion and togetherness

All owners are big ego characters from
Chelsea to Hull to Peterborough.

That's normally part of the deal.

Give me Sam over Tan anytime :bluescarf:

I'd take anyone over the clown we got now.. One thing for Sam , he has passion and is a football man. Surely he's learnt from his mistakes..

i think sam is the lesser of 2 evils, the other being tan.
however being a kid at the time of sam, the moment we hit the sh*t and i seen earnie, kavs ect all being shipped off, hurt because i didnt understand how a owner could be soo careless, and to then demand money to leave the club, he made me sick, and i lost all respect for the guy at that moment.

Indeed he did.
He also got us to Wembley a few times.

As long as he doesn't cash the cheques I'd have him over Tan

Did you know fans have been banned tonight for having banners in the ground?

By the way I want Tan out, but we're all hypocrites, we all cheered when we beat Man City, when we got promoted. Tan enabled that with his money, yes it's owed, but without his funds we'd not have got there. Even Annis et al with their we were always against the rebrand, they all cheer when city players paid for by Tan scored.

Bollocks.

You need to learn the difference between supporting the team and supporting the regime.

Tan came to this club not to win us over but make money. If it was not for us supporting the team over the years the likes if Tan would never have the opportunity to make more money.
