Cardiff City fans' favourite Jay Bothroyd enters rebrand debate by saying Bluebirds should be playing in blue
The former Bluebird took to Twitter ahead of tonight's third round FA Cup clash with Colchester United to have his say on the rebrand.
Former Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd has waded into the controversy surrounding the club's rebrand - ahead of tonight's FA Cup clash with Colchester United.
The former Bluebird, who scored more than 40 goals in his time with the club, will be working as a pundit during the BBC's coverage of tonight's match.
And as he prepares to return to the Welsh capital, the fans' favourite has expressed his disappointment at the prospect of his former team running out in red.
“I'm on the way back to my second home Cardiff to watch the boys tonight shame they won't be in blue but should see a convincing win,” Bothroyd tweeted.
The decision by Cardiff owner Vincent Tan to change the club's kit from blue to red in 2012 has divided fans with the debate once again coming to a head in recent weeks.
It follows a dismal run of form for the Championship side and increasing discontent with the style of play employed by manager Russell Slade.
Cardiff have just come out of a dismal December, when they failed to win in five Championship matches. Tonight, they take on a Colchester side who have plummeted to second from bottom in League One with just one win in nine.
Slade’s team are set to be watched by the lowest recorded crowd at Cardiff City Stadium when they clash with Colchester in the third round.
A gate of around only 4,000 seems to be the best the Bluebirds hierarchy can hope for, the fans voting with their feet as discontent grows among the supporters.
That figure would eclipse the previous lowest at the ground, the 5,545 gate for a League Cup tie against Dagenham and Redbridge when the stadium opened six years ago.

To be fair Bothroyd has always spoken about us in the highest regard and his

when coming on for QPR against The Jacks was classic
He may have been lazy and liked a belly flop but on his day he was unplayable (remember THAT goal aganst QPR at the CCS). I certainly enjoyed watching him play more than some of the rubbish we've had to endure lately

One of my all time faves. Classy goals, unplayable on many occasions. Him & Chops have never been equalled.

After Koumas (first spell) I'd say he was probably the best player at Cardiff in the last 10 years. Doesn't deserve any of the stick he gets off some people, has always respected Cardiff fans and was unplayable at times.

if he was playing for us nowadays in red, he would be getting dogs abuse from the crowd, like a similar player like macheda does.
people are of course nostalgic and will see dave jones teams with rose tinted glasses as we were playing in blue.
but it is good to see that he feels that way

Machedas not in bothroyds league.Definetly one of cardiffs better players from the last few years

I'd take a fit Jay & chops over any of our current striking options for sure.

Jay would walk into our current team.

Bothroyd comes out with a positive, supporting quote & the negative people come out on here straight away to curse him out! How sad.
Had his faults but a great player for us.

The treatment of Bothroyd shows how shite our fans are.
If Jones had developed a game plan that didn't rely on him or solid back up we'd have a far better chance of being promoted earlier than we were.
Fully fit, he'd walk into the team now, but full fitness and in light of these comments, that won't happen now.

He was a great player for city, as you say had his faults but he wouldn't have been with us without them faults. To much negativity on here at the moment.
