Peter Whittingham - is it true ?

Tue Dec 30, 2014 11:31 pm

He is the poshest player we have. During the Watford game in block 116 quite clearly chants were heard " one does what he wants, one does what he wants, Peter Whittingham, one does what he wants.

This to me confirms he is. Any thoughts ? :bluescarf:

He's a gentleman. Lives neare and always goes out of his way to talk football with anyone who wants a chat. Much to the annoyance of his misses at times

When you get up real close to him.........any sign of a pair of bollocks?

There always have been players like Whittingham in football. The bottom line is that he could have left a number of times but choose to stay here. Would Southampton fans have said the same to Le Tissier then as he was also seen as being too laid back.

Whitts has been one of our best players for more than 8 years. Cost us about 300k, has scored loads of goals, loads of assists and if we could buy another player to do all he has done for this club now for 3m it would be a steal. Don't blame him for the people who have played around him, or for the piss poor last two managers we have employed.

Saints fans never tired of LeT.....his light never dimmed with them. Turned down Manchester United to stay with the club. Not even Stockport have enquired about Whitts.

Remember Le Tissier at Ninian Park in 1995? Absolutely brilliant that night as we were stuffed 3-0. Moderators should be concerned we are even talking about Whitts in the same thread!

Not even Stockport have enquired about Whitts ? Stockport may not have but West Ham and Fulham (when they were in the premiership) did.
I was just stating that so-called lazy players have always been in the game it's you who is deluded here

Agree, the comparison was surely with their styles not that Whitts was as good as Le Tissier. Bit obvious that!

One of the only players in modern times that will eventually go down as a City legend IMO.

I was there that night, Le Tiss scored a free-kick if memory allows me to remember that far back! :ayatollah:

The Southampton team talk that night was "Just give it to Tiss"........and every player that got the ball did just that!

As for the rest of the Whitts defenders.......... the game has always had these sort of passenger midfielders. Tony Currie, Glen Hoddle spring to mind. PW winds me up the way he marks space and appears to be sprinting whilst actually jogging. He could be so much better if he played further up or went past the ball from midfield. Dave Jones started to use him as the centre of the wagon wheel, which is fine when we have the ball. But when we lose it, OPPOSITION JUST WALK THROUGH HIM IN THE CENTRE OF THE PITCH. You can see that can't you? If not, it is you who are deluded!

Dave Jones played him in his original position out wide and that's where he had over 20 goals one season

How many of our goals this season are Whitts assists? I'd say over 50 %,. He's been crap recently but so has everyone ( even Marshall at times).

But you must be deluded if you think that Whitts is there to tackle and win the ball  are you actually saying that you wouldn't want Currie or Hoddle in your team

The simple fact is that when you have a player that can create like Whitts does you pick a team around him, something MM, OGS and Slade never worked out.

5 man midfield with Whitts in the No. 10 role and watch him create and score week in, week out. Simple enough to me :ayatollah:

Agreed.

But he is not playing in a 5 man midfield as a number 10. More likely see him take the ball from the centre halves.....and passing the ball back to them without even turning up field.

Unless Slade changes the system, we get the worst out of Whitts.

Currie and Hoddle were great players who never got the caps they deserved because they did not contribute enough in a 4-4-2 set up. Sound familiar?

ffs when he scored those 20 goals 13 were penalty
ffs when turned down other offers his wages were renegioted
ffs when you talk to him he will tell you he has no desire to go any where else he has / had no ambition just like he now plays with no ambition
fu.. the stats about how many passes he makes in a game they are mostly backwards sideways or back where they came from
:bluescarf: wakey wakey :bluescarf:

Re: Peter Whittingham - is it true ?

Hang on Hoddle didn't have many caps because of a public fallout he had with Bobby Robson FFS. First you tried to say that no one has ever come in for Whitts and now this!!! Stop lying to twist your point FFS

You are right that he is willing to pass backwards and sideways to retain possession. Judging by the stats this season if a few more of our lot did that we may have stopped the opposition scoring at will as I'm yet to see a team that can score whilst they haven't got the ball

Whitts is also the most likely to actually hit a 40-50 yard through ball that finds a City shirt. The problem lately is that there is nobody making any threatening forward runs making Whitts, and the back four, look mugs when they are caught in possession whilst waiting for someone to show for them.

It's no coincidence that when the team is flying Whitts looks great, it's because he has runners to hit. That gives even more to the argument that it has to be a 5 man midfield to make the best use of, in my opinion, our most creative player :bluescarf:

Hes a Cardiff city legend,When the team perform poorly peter takes more stick than most because of his mannerisms.
He has to play in a 5 man midfield surely
