The New Family Section

Tue Dec 30, 2014 12:18 pm

Wonder if anyone can shed light on the new "family" section, in the Ninian stand? I'm talking about the block closest to the away fans, part of Block 116 I think.

For the first part of this season, this section was mostly quite empty, with most season ticket holders for some reason choosing blocks to the right of this section.

This section is now filling up however - for the Watford game, it was practically full, with a large number of adults with children. Nothing against the people who have bought these tickets. I imagine there have been a good number of family half season tickets that have been sold, and this is the easiest section to find 3 or 4 seats together.

But I wonder if the club has even been encouraging families to buy up this section? As you might imagine, this is now another quiet section, with everybody sitting down. Right next to the away fans.

So we now have a large family section to the immediate left of the away fans, and a small family section immediately to the right of away fans. Great.

These tickets are comps provided by the club, so there can be families and club employees and a sterile areas between both sides of the away support, so it can dampen down any atmosphere with the away fans. It's a club initiative and policy :bluescarf:

Thanks for the info. I imagine you must be an employee of the club yourself. I just wonder how much more the club feels it has to do to "dampen down" the atmosphere. I find it very sad that you feel the need to use words like "sterile" to justify this policy. Can it really be club policy to attempt to sterilise the support? Is this really what's needed? I wonder what next? Perhaps you should try to segregate the away fans, so that only families can sit closest to the Cardiff fans, thus sterilising the away support?

I know a bloke who takes his wife and kids, they hsve been given 5 free family passes for 5 home games, they all have zero interest and at one stage contacted the club when one of his kids got hit by a burger thrown from the away section, I laughed and he said it's disgraceful, and everybody should sit down and shut up, I told the mug where to go then dropped him

Used to be a great singing area until the club introduced the Nazi stewards. I eventually got fed up of being told to sit down, lost the battle and now stand in the Canton.

It just strikes me that when the away fans are addressing "us" in chants, those nearest to them have no interest in making any reply. It's like being in a pub with two friends. There's one silent friend between the other two, who are trying to have a conversation, so have to keep shouting over him. Times that situation by a whole block of people and a stairwell, and it just seems ridiculous to me. In trying to create a "sterile" atmosphere to prevent "hostility", what the club has actually done is just increase hostility towards the club itself.

I don't know why the club are so keen on getting rid of the atmosphere in the stadium. The vast majority of clubs with good atmospheres have at least one standing section next to the away section. Man City, West Brom, Southampton, West Ham, Spurs, Newcastle, QPR, Leicester, Swansea... all good examples of this and they don't have any trouble with fans, and that's just in the Premier League. There's nothing wrong with a bit of banter between opposition fans and it's one of the main factors of a good atmosphere at football grounds.
