Possession - Shocking Stats

Mon Dec 29, 2014 9:50 am

Possession does not win games outright but without the ball you cannot score and your opponents can.

In 24 games this season, only in 3 games have we had more possession than our opponents. Two of those were 51%-49% and the other 62-38 at Blackpool and we know what happened there.

In some games we have recorded 35, 33, 27, 28, 36 and 32% possession. It is not surprising that we are losing games.

Surely the management should be encouraging our teams to keep the ball more and improving the passing because at the moment it is either hoofball or we cannot string two or three passes together. It just shows how easy we are to play against. Within the last month we have been fortunate to come away with a point against Rotherham and Charlton.

The Forest game was 42%. The average % under Slade in his 13 games is 42.8% and the away teams 57.2%. Only in 1 game under Slade have we had more possession, that being the Millwall game 51-49% and we know what happened there.

When a team is consistently having considerably less possession than it's opponents who in many instances have an inferior squad then there is a problem somewhere, imo that problem is Russell Slade and his tactics and formation.
