CCFC ''Citizenship'' Test

Mon Dec 29, 2014 5:30 am

Watching CCFC from afar over recent years it has become ever apparent that there is a low level of passion and commitment from an increasing number of our players. Now i'm not going to mention the ''R'' word, those that know me know my feelings that the events of the last 2.5 years are the most significant reason that the passion that we were once famous for has evaporated. How can you have pride in a badge that your supporters shun? Notwithstanding recent events there appears to be a broader issue in British football whereby a large number of players are removed from the fans and in some cases are only ''in it for the money.'' This situation in my view is exacerbated at City due to ''the current situation'' and also the revolving door of players resulting largely from managerial changes.

I feel that this lack of passion and pride in the club is really huring us at present. I know i'm looking through rose tinted spectacles to a degree, but when did we last have a Stantona, Perry or Kav who really gave their all for the cause?

My solution?-how about making playing for City (or any club for that matter) a privilege by bringing in certain criteria that players must achieve to attain their 5 figure weekly salaries. An example of this could be a ''citizenship test'' along the lines of entry to some countries. For example players need to learn about the history and traditions of the club before securing the club-nothing too tricky but at a minimum they should know about Riverside FC, NP, 1927, rivalries, FA cup and Euro runs, that cold Tuesday night in Rochdale that we all attended etc etc.

Furthermore they would need to spend increased time in local communities, running training sessions in schools, supporting local charities, etc etc.

What is everyone's thoughts? Do any clubs in the UK do this or something similar?
