Went to watch Newport V Plymouth today

Fri Dec 26, 2014 7:07 pm

Went with the old man, he's originally from Newport and Cardiff were obviously playing away at Charlton and fair play to Newport it's a fantastic achievement to get back to where they are now.

Really nice buzz going on in the club house before hand. A pint, Chicken curry and chips in a tray before hand, no frills but that's exactly what you want before a game.

Really enjoyed the match. Proper gritty football and not a bad standard all things considered. Both sets of players really getting stuck in, no shirking tackles and the ref didn't have to stop play once for players writhing around on the floor close to death only for them to make a miraculous recovery moments after play being stopped.

Proper players playing for their shirts not their wage packets.

The main thing that impressed me was the passion from both sets of fans. Just over 5k but a fantastic atmosphere and hats off to Plymouth fans behind the goal because they must have been soaking, prompting the Newport fans chanting "One nil and you're soaking wet"

I've never been an out and out pro-red city fan but I've been happy to go along with it all with the dangled carrot of premiership football. However recently I've been feeling disillusioned by it all for obvious reasons and today really brought it all home for me. IT IS all about Identity and we HAVE lost our identity. Identity means different things for different people because we all relate to Cardiff in different ways whether you go to just home games or home and away or how ever, but it is all about Identity and I can see that now and that has gone for many many people.

It's not all about playing premiership football and seeing the likes of Ronney and Van Persie every other week, its about supporting your club in a way that you can relate to, recognise and Identify with.

Having said all this arguably we could have gone under without Tans investment but it could have all been so different. Tan could have been a hero because he could have delivered established premiership football whilst keeping us blue and not breaking the club from the top to the bottom.

I think the damage is done now irrespective of if and when we change back to blue under Tan. Too much bad feeling and hurt for it to be repaired.

I never thought I would say this and I totally understand the financial implications of not having Tan's investment but after watching the Newport Plymouth game today I would honestly be watching hard fought, gritty proper lower league football with players ready to give it their all and get stuck in and play for their shirts with a hard core set of passionate fans even if its just 5k.

Such a shame Mr Tan, you could have been a hero and gone down in Cardiff history but you will be for ever more only seen as a stubborn dictator type figure that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

I do believe that we will be back in blue one day soon and we will have our identity back whatever league that may be in.

Players come and go and so do owners, it will return one day. It will be in the near future but not under tans reign. It is indeed about identity. :bluescarf:

Is his second name Poole ?

I went today. There was a 16 year old playing centre back who we released by us.
Looked calm, good on the ball, won a lot of headers, and got in good positions defensively. Today was very physical as Plymouth had a a big lump up top and the weather was dog shit and the youngster looked an old pro.

I won't even begin to compare atmospheres etc :(

16 year old playing L2 or DVP / U18 games? getting released done him a big favour in his development

Sadly agree with original poster.
I go over Newport a couple of tomes a season as I have mates who play and give me free ticket. But never have any interst in whether they win etc.

But it does open your eyes to what we are missing and what passion there still is on the terrace.

I would be happy to start again in the Conference or even lower if it meant us being Cardiff City again. And the away trips would be a blast :bluescarf:

Really enjoyed today. I can just imagine what the atmosphere would be like in games even if we were blue in league 2!

As I said I've never been totally pro-red but near enough. I get it all now though!

I decided to watch newport as I live here, but originally from the diff and been alway follow Cardiff and season ticket for many years.
I ve got say really watching newport great atmosphere, no negatively like cardiff. The football was a lot better from the last time seen newport playless hoofball. I thought football was more exciting than cardiff. Maybe there more passion there

I was invited down rodney parade today by a couple of the county lads I happen to know, declined although I did consider the day out as a neutral out of respect.

Sounds like a good little atmosphere, I really cant stand the high earners in football anymore look at our club, too much prima donna and young lads living the glam life, no discipline or passion for the teams
