Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has suggested the escalating war of words between supporters and owner Vincent Tan is not helping as he battles to salvage the Bluebirds' stuttering play-off hopes.

Slade watched his side throw away two points against 10-man Charlton less than 24 hours after Tan fuelled the anger of unhappy fans by insisting he will not ditch the rebrand he introduced more than two years ago.

Prior to kick-off, supporters responded to Tan's Christmas Day comments by defiantly declaring they will not back down from the protest plans in January.

Slade was reluctant to get drawn into the dispute but he did admit the disharmony is far from the foundation for success.

"All I will say about that is I think to be successful it is helpful if everyone is pulling in the same direction, for sure. It's not rocket science," he said.

"You have to be professional and do your job whatever is going on at the football club.

"My priority is to concentrate on the football and I've got enough to do in terms of getting that right.

"It is a work in progress and my full focus and commitment is on improving our results. I'm trying to get us into that top six."

yes, I am noticing a trend in general that it's always the football fans to blame for being too quiet, not turning up, or in our case standing up for our history as a BLUE football club with a BLUEBIRD on the chest

To blame the fans for everything that's happening on and off the pitch is absolutely pathetic! The club is an absolute joke, from top to bottom.

To say we caused the rebrand is ridiculous! False promises were made by Tan, bribed and blackmailed by him and by high people in the club to accept it, while fans wanted to remain blue but accepted it for the club to be in a more stable position!

Years gone by, one miserable season in the prem to show for it, with every interview given by Tan presented as a 5-star comedy by the media. We now have mediocre backroom staff and coaches, out of depth manager, a mass clear out of quality players not given a chance, high earners who are just here for paycheck, and fans leaving as they no longer feel it's their club!

But yes Tan (and now Slade), it's our fault the club is in a mess!

I back down from my position actually on reflection. He was bound to be asked about the protest movement and it's an easy one to spin accordingly. Slade could use all the life-jackets he can find too as he's in deep water with the bad performances

So in that case Mr Slade, Tan should pull in the same direction as the supporters/customers as there are thousands of us compared to one of him and then you might see things change on the playing field. Slade wasn't on my Christmas card list anyway, but his comments which are typically woolly, have reLly sealed his fate as far as I'm concerned.
