Cardiff City boss Russell Salde claims Mats Daehli's 'heart wasn't in it' as he targets new faces
Slade has received criticism from a number of supporters over the decision to let the gifted 19-year-old go but he has now moved to explain the reasons behind the deal
Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has revealed why he let Mats Daehli leave, claiming the Norwegian's "heart wasn't in it".
Daehli has agreed a £2m move to Bundesliga club Freiburg on Monday and will officially join them when the January transfer window opens.
Slade has received criticism from a number of supporters over the decision to let the gifted 19-year-old go but he has now moved to explain the reasons behind the deal.
“Mats was looking to go," he said.
“We had Mats’ representative over here and I spoke to him. His heart probably wasn’t in the club and that is a factor which is very important to me.
“He wanted to move and we found an opportunity for him. Mats wasn’t playing enough minutes for us anyway and it was great chance for him to move on as well.”
Daehli, Juan Cala and Magnus Eikrem have all left Cardiff City over recent weeks, while Ravel Morrison ended his loan spell early and returned to West Ham.
Slade confirmed there will be more players going out and coming in, saying: “There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to reduce numbers in the squad before we attempt to rebuild a bit more. Things have been ongoing since I came.
“The January transfer window will be important and there will be movement in and out.
“We will watch the situation closely and we have our targets as well. I can see us doing business at all times during the window.
“There may be opportunities to get some done quickly, which will be good because we can bed them in, but it might be that we have to be patient to get the right player.
“The key, of course, is to get the right target, the right type and quality of player.”

One thing I have noticed about slade is he is very quick to defend himself.
If it means blaming players so be it.

I take it Macheda will be gone then.

Maybe its just the truth ,agent goes to the club and says he needs to play more, so slade say he won't so he's gone

Perhaps if he was given more playing time his heart may have been in it a bit more.
As far as I'm concerned the sale of one of our most skilful and promising players is a damning indictment of Slade's inability to utilize his talents.
And if Tan is behind this sale then it's confirmation that Slade does not have the balls to stand up to Tan.
Give it a rest Russell - of course he wanted to move to enable him to play football which he was never going to do under your one dimensional style of football.

Its a familiar pattern now, slade always blames someone else when he is criticised.
His heart looked in it at Bournemouth under young and Scott. If his heart wasn't in it under slade probably has something to do with the way slade played every single midfielder known to man over daehli. Ffs he catapulted Kim straight into the team from the stands.

It is little wonder that Daehli's heart wasn't in it, playing under the coaching staff we have at Cardiff at the moment.

As has been said on here many times, Slade is a dinosaur and the type of football we play under him does not suit Daehli' s style. I'm very disappointed he's gone, as a better manager could have helped develop him and made a place for him in the team. Like many others I think he could have been far more effective 'in the hole' as a number 10. We must also remember those around him are not particularly clever players, able to make the runs that Daehli can pick.
Just my opinion but I think we've lost a gem and we're left with what exactly?

Spot on,my heart would not be in it as well if I was ignored and had no chance of playing.

Going backwards under Slade , if we keep Slade he will eventually take us down to league 1

Exactly what I would say. Slade had no intention of playing the quality players.

Mats was the player I was most looking forward to watching in the Championship!
I can't believe he didn't start a game under Slade, how can a player regularly be a country's best player not be deemed good enough for a side that lacks very little creativity or flair?
Pretty sure my heart wouldn't be in it either, who would want to play for Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum?

Sadly I agree and I would be very surprised if Fabio is still with us at the end of January

I'm not convinced that constantly telling the media we need to sell players is helping us get good value on them...

Why does he feel the need to comment . By doing so he just looks a cheap shot. Slade the waters getting deeper and you can't swim.

When we lost a game under Solskjaer, the manager said "hands up, I take this on me. I made a mistake". When we lose under Slade, then it´s Solskjaer´s fault, because he left everything in a mess? What part of this mess have you sorted out so far, Slade? Or did you in fact add a bit more to the mess? No? Grow a pair, man.

Dropped entirely from the squad while shining for his country at international level probably did it. Pathetic by Slade

My heart is not in it either

For all OGS's failings he always took responsibility for our defeats and deflected blame from the players.
This guy blames everything under the sun apart from himself and that has to be a reason the confidence of the playing staff is so low.
I'm really not looking forward to this transfer window at all. It will be a barometer to show the way the club is heading under Slade

If he was playing or not there was no doubt once Ole was gone he would leave either January or December, he only joined for Ole, not the club.. He had the chance to go back to United

Mats Daehli was a player that Russell Slade wasn't overly struck on it appears and a Cardiff departure in January always seemed likely - this departure was confirmed ahead of Christmas, on Monday.
A £2m move to Freiburg was agreed and this deal will officially go through on January 1st.
Slade's decision to let the 19-year-old leave has drawn criticism from Cardiff supporters but he's responded by telling Wales Online that Daehli's 'heart wasn't in it' and with this opportunity to move on presenting itself it was one he wanted to take and was best for all concerned.
He said: 'Mats was looking to go.
'We had Mats' representative over here and I spoke to him. His heart probably wasn't in the club and that is a factor which is very important to me.
'He wanted to move and we found an opportunity for him. Mats wasn't playing enough minutes for us anyway and it was great chance for him to move on as well.'
Slade also said that plenty is going on behind the scenes to 'reduce numbers in the squad' and he will then be 'attempting to rebuild a bit more' in the New Year but 'the right type and quality of player' will be what he goes for.

Daehli only ever came here for Solskjaer so it's not surprising he lost heart when he was sacked. That said, he's a professional, not a fan boy. He should have been professional and done his job to his best ability. That's footballers for you. That said again, I would have made sure a player like him was encouraged and dealt with to get the best out of him. Not written off without effort.

So, who came here because of the club? Who are those genuine fans among the players?

Totally agree. I cringe at his interviews, everyones elses fault. Wouldnt even buy a second hand car off him although im sure he would do a good job trying.
TBH my heart wouldnt be in it very much if i was treated like him. Hard to be motivated when you know you have very little chance of even making the bench if all our defenders are fit.

I hope Slade doesn't have any money to spend (unless its short term loans) as he will no doubt use it on bringing in players to play dinosaur football. Tan should pocket what money he can get from transfers and wage reductions and then leg it (I hope!).
