Why would players want to sign for us?

For a number of years now we have brought in various players with the incentive of good/big wages, now that it appears that we are having a cost cutting excercise and unloading talented players and cancelling contracts, I would assume that wages on offer to potential Jan signings will be on the average to low level, so what incentive is there for players to choose us in preference to say Forest or Watford for instance?
Our club is on a downward spiral and players will be only to aware of this, my guess is Slade will have his work cut out to improve the playing staff and we'll end up with 2nd or 3rd choice targets.
Players from league 1 or 2 may find the challenge tempting but if we're up against other Champ clubs for their signature I would expect them to give us a wide birth.

Yet we still expect these young mercenarys to feel the same way about the club as we fans do.

We should feel no surprise when they show no feelings for the club but what annoys me is when players do not give 100% effort in every game.
