:bluescarf: Team News: Charlton v Cardiff :bluescarf:

The traditional Boxing Day game will see Charlton in action at home in the Championship this time round.

Charlton entertain Cardiff at the Valley on Boxing Day as we look to put last weekend's defeat behind us and extend a fairly impressive run of form against the Welsh side.

We should have captain Johnnie Jackson (calf) to call upon again after he missed the defeat at Blackburn, which was his second game missed.

Injuries to Rhoys Wiggins (foot), Franck Moussa (knee), Stephen Henderson and Simon Church (both shoulder) will keep this quartet out again.

Cardiff aren't expected to have any new injury concerns but will remain without Anthony Pilkington (hamstring).

Cardiff striker Kenwyne Jones could start after he came off the bench to score in the loss to Brentford.

Winger Anthony Pilkington (hamstring) is not yet ready to return.

' The likely line-ups '

Charlton Athletic (4-4-2): Nick Pope; Joe Gomez, Tal Ben-Haim, Andre Bikey, Chris Solly; Laurie Wilson, Johnnie Jackson (capt), Yoni Buyens, Johann Gudmundsson; Igor Vetokele, Callum Harriott

If Slade sticks to his usual, rigid 4-4-2 then 3-1 to Charlton.

If 4-5-1 with a bit of defensive help then 1-1.

Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Cardiff City

By Barney Corkhill, Reporter

Last Updated: Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 16:28 UK
Nothing separates Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City in the Championship table going into their Boxing Day clash at The Valley on Friday.

The two sides are level on both points and goal difference, and Charlton would have been the happier of the two clubs if they were given that scenario before the campaign.

However, despite spending the first half of the season in the top half of the table, there are signs of a slump for the Addicks, who have now gone five matches without a victory.

No fewer than 12 of their 22 outings have ended all square, but they were unable to come away with a point on Saturday as Blackburn Rovers condemned them to just their fourth defeat of the season.

Still, having been embroiled in a relegation battle throughout last season, Charlton fans will be content with where they sit now, 11 points clear of the bottom three and just eight away from the playoffs.

Home form has been a major factor behind their improved performance this time around, with only high-flying Ipswich Town leaving The Valley with a victory so far this season.

However, draws have been accountable for a lot of dropped points at home, and Charlton have now won just one of their last eight in front of their own fans.

Morgan Fox was forced off after just half an hour against Blackburn and could miss this match, while Joe Pigott is pushing for a start having come off the bench at half time.

Cardiff could hand a start to Kenwyne Jones as they look to get back to winning ways.

The Bluebirds were humbled 3-2 at home by Brentford last Saturday, having been 3-0 down within 35 minutes, but Jones caught the eye and grabbed a goal after he was introduced from the bench and could be given the nod from the start.
Kadeem Harris made his full Championship debut for City in that home defeat and the winger is likely to keep his place with Anthony Pilkington not quite ready for a return after a hamstring problem.

Boss Russell Slade is likely to ring the changes with the likes of Sean Morrison and Matthew Connolly hoping to start in a re-jigged defence.

Jackson is back, bad news for us.

Bikey - remember him for Reading when he got sent off... had a massive strop on the way off.

Hope Jones is playing, should be a good battle between those 2.
