If Russell Slade played all the players in their right positions, perhaps we would see more from them
I still say on their day our team can beat anyone in the Championship, just need a good manager and coaches

How many of Russell Slade's Bluebirds are up to the mark in a disappointing Championship season to date
Cardiff City have used 29 players in the Championship this season
Cardiff City have used 29 players in League matches this season. On Boxing Day, at Charlton Athletic, the Bluebirds reach the halfway point in their season.
Tom Adeyemi (6 starts, 5 sub)
Athletic, energetic and there’s a lot to come from young Tom, 23. Ideal to slot in alongside Whittingham and Gunnarsson if City go for a five-man midfield
RATING: 6
John Brayford (21, 0)
Has missed only one fixture. Why didn’t Malky Mackay select him. Strong, effective full-back who can play right or left. Works to get forward and link in attack
RATING: 6
Guido Burgstaller (1, 2)
Looked strong, effective early on, a player who could pick a pass. The first half of this season passed him by and will surely head off in search for regular football
RATING: 4
Juan Cala (1,2)
Simply didn’t fit into the mix. Good defender on his day, didn’t figure under Solskjaer or Slade. Clear for a long time before he went that Cala was unlikely to be staying
RATING: 3
Matthew Connolly (13, 0)
A strong, consistent defender who can play centre-back or right-back effectively. Often seems to be the man to miss out. Has never let the team down, excellent squad player
RATING: 7
Mats Daehli (7, 2)
Teenager with one hell of a future, doesn’t seem to fit into City’s playing system. Two sub appearances under Slade, doesn’t seem to figure in plans. If he does move City must get major fee
RATING: 5
Kagisho Dikgacoi (1, 1)
Has not been fully fit since signing, currently out injured. Due back training February, but will have to go through a mini pre-season. Seen as Medel’s replacement, might have made a difference
RATING: 4
Magnus Eikrem (0, 3)
Too similar in style to Whitts, who was always going to start regularly. Never had a real chance to show what he could do and has left the club with contract cancelled by mutual consent
RATING: 3
Fabio (14, 4)
Gifted attacking style, can struggle defensively. I love watching Fabio play and at home he is worth the risk. Lovely running style, has the Brazilian magic to open up opposing defences
RATING: 5
Danny Gabbidon (0, 1)
Player/coach Gabbs has a dual role and is used as cover. Key man on Slade’s coaching staff and a solid defender if he is needed. Unlikely to have many chances, but is a good influence
RATING: 6
Javi Guerra (0, 3)
Good touch, eye for a goal. Failed to impress when he had chance. After pre-season I felt he might partner Macheda in attack. How wrong was I? Both looked promising, but have not delivered
RATING: 3
Aron Gunnarsson (19, 2/2 goals)
Box-to-box, full of energy. Criticism aimed at the Icelandic team captain has been unfair. City may need extra legs through central midfield, but Gunnar is a Bluebirds warrior
RATING: 6
Kadeem Harris (1, 1)
I have watched him develop for three years. Has patiently waited for his chance and 2015 could be Kadeem’s time. Quick, effective and loves running at defenders. Now he can develop
RATING: 6
Mark Hudson (3, 0)
Sad that his last contribution was a 90th minute own goal in defeat at Wolves. Should have stayed. Isn’t the best Championship centre-back around, but an effective organiser
RATING: 5
Declan John (0, 2)
A teenager with a big future. Facing a testing time right now as he battles for a first team chance, but will come again. Missing out behind Fabio/Brayford, must improve defensively
RATING: 5
Kenwyne Jones (13, 5/8 goals)
Can be frustrating to watch at times, but at his best KJ can give opposition defenders. City’s top scorer and has the ability to lead the line in a lone role with support from midfield
RATING: 7
Kim Bo-Kyung (2, 0)
Isn’t suited to wide midfield role, plays there too often. Like Daehli, his best position is through central midfield or behind the main striker. May have had his last first team chance
RATING: 4
Adam Le Fondre (15, 4/2 goals)
Works tirelessly, runs the channels and tracks back to help out on defence. All he needs is goals, but they just won’t come. Alfie will come good in front of goal and I hope it’s soon
RATING: 6
Federico Macheda (10, 6/3 goals)
Easily the biggest disappointment so far this season. Has all the ability needed, but rarely shows it. Still has a big chance with Cardiff, but has to start producing - and fast
RATING: 4
Bruno Manga (11, 0/1 goal)
Class act. A quality defender, good with ball at his feet. Off to the Africa Cup of nations in January - and City will miss him during those early Championship fixtures in the new year
RATING: 7
David Marshall (22, 0)
Talking of a class act, it’s Marsh up next. Ever present, along with Whittingham, and incredibly consistent. Premier League clubs wanted Marshall, but he stayed loyal to Cardiff
RATING: 8
Nicky Maynard (3, 6/1 goal)
Must wonder what he has to do. Fired City’s winner v Wigan, but his chances have been severely limited. Experienced striker whop hasn’t started since Wolves away in August
RATING: 5
Sean Morrison (17, 0/3 goals)
Big, strong and experienced. Has been a regular, playing alongside Manga, Connolly, Hudson. Unlucky to be left out v Brentford, but Turner/Manga looks the preferred partnership
RATING: 6
Ravel Morrison (1, 6)
Looked a gamble when he arrived from West Ham on loan. It didn’t work out. Glimpses of a talented player, a silky running style good to watch. It didn’t work out, he’s back with Hammers
RATING: 3
Craig Noone (13, 2/1 goal)
Can change a game. Now back to full fitness and is sure to play a leading role in 2015. Love watching Noone dart past a defender, inside or out, and go for goal. More of those needed
RATING: 6
Anthony Pilkington (15, 1/1 goal)
Quality player, growing influence before suffering injury a month ago. Now fit - and could be in the starting line-up at Charlton. That will be a big lift because he has been missed
RATING: 6
Joe Ralls (5, 6/1 goal)
Big part of City squad. Effective midfield player, can also slot into a defensive role. Age 21 and has already made more than 70 first team appearances in his career
RATING: 6
Ben Turner (6, 0/0)
The Turner/Manga combination seems to be favourite, but Bruno’s off to the Africa Cup of Nations in January. Turner now fit again after ankle surgery, will be first choice going into 2015
RATING: 6
Pete Whittingham (22, 0/5 goals)
Ever present. Has been booked four times, but would have to earn 10 cautions before a ban. Among the first names on my team sheet, although maybe in a three-man central midfield unit
RATING: 7
