Rangers' drop in crowds

Mon Dec 22, 2014 9:12 am

Interesting to see there's now concern over Rangers' big drop in crowds.

Their fans have been praised previously for their loyalty after the drop down the divisions.

Their game on Saturday pulled 28,000 rather than the usual 50,000 they used to attract.

It's still very impressive but shows that no club is immune from losing fans when times are tough.

The point of this isn't to bash Rangers, but shows why our crowds were so low in the 80s and 90s with crap football, off field chaos and hooliganism all contributing.

If Rangers can lose so many fans anyone can.

It's also a warning to Tan now. If the shambles continues on and off the pitch we will lose thousands of fans next season.

If we're still in red next season with such poor football it will alienate the new fans and the hardcore.

We will have 10,000 to 12,000 average next season . You've been warned.

Just imagine what crowd Rangers would attract if for some strange and diabolical reason their owner decided to change their home shirt colour from blue to red.Sounds ridiculous when u think about it, doesn't it. :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Whatever the reasons for the reasons for the rebrand originally, it has now spectacularly failed.

If things continue we'll be under 10,000 in a couple of years.

If Rangers can lose 20,000 fans we can lose 10,000.

Brought it on themselves. Cant stand "the" rangers. Cheats and punished for it as simple as that.

Same as hearts. Cheats as well.

The rate the rangers are going at there is talk of them going bust again soon ulness Mike Ashley steps in and saves them.

They won't go bust again because Ashley upped his stake for a reason and that reason isn't to see the company go bust

usual ignorance shown regarding Rangers being "cheats".They won their appeal on the tax thing. The crowds have dipped as the fans are not happy with Mccoist or the board. The team is playing abysmally, and McCoist seems clueless.Be interesting to see the attendances now hes gone.

They won the tax thing but they ripped off plenty others.
Clubs a joke and again there was only around 20000 at last game.

Not bad for a wee team firing up the ranks though.

It would be the same with Liverpool, Man United or any big club - years of under achievement and chaos would lead to a big drop in crowds.

City had 20 years of failure. Like to see how some of the so called big clubs would deal with that.

No rebrand needed, when teams drop in divisions and stop winning fans stop going, they will say it's this and that, but mainly because they are not romping away in the lower leagues.

It's easy to support a successful team when they are doing well.....

Quite happy with what we're doing all the same, unlike Rangers by all accounts.
We accept what we are.

we would lose a few thousand fans next season even if there was no rebrand, purely on the basis of poor football and overall a mediocre season. some are dressing up discontentment over poor results and value as boycotting the rebrand, but plenty others are genuine and will return when we return to blue.

our usual attendance under dave jones was about 16k wasn't it? the bumper 20k plus crowds are a recent phenomena. i expect crowds of about 15-16k next season, but as i said, many 'fans' were only along for the PL ride and are won't renew regardless. prices must drop considerably to have any chance of stemming the flow, but i can't see that happening, only smoke and mirrors with regards to pricing will happen IMO.

as for rangers, the initial novelty of huge crowds in the lower leagues were always going to wear off in time.

Don't be surprised to see crowds of around 12,000 next season.

Our prices will be dropping in at least one part of ground that I do know!
