' The 4-4-2 formation isn't working '
I thought, having watched them through pre-season training and matches, that Federico Macheda and Adam Le Fondre would be a dangerous strike pairing for the Bluebirds. Right now it looks as though I was wrong - and I owe Kenwyne Jones an apology.
Macheda has been desperately disappointing, while Le Fondre has struggling for goals despite his selfless work for the team and willingness to get into scoring positions.
My view was that Jones, a powerful presence at centre-forward, would be an ideal man to come off the bench. He did that against Brentford and made a real impact, scoring his eighth goal of the season and causing problems for the Bees.
When Jones is fired up he is a menace to the opposition.
His performance in attack dipped against Bournemouth away and it cost him a starting place. Jones was full of running when he replaced Macheda against Brentford.
It’s time for a change. I’d play Jones in a lone striking role at Charlton with Tom Adeyemi adding string legs in midfield. The 4-4-2 formation isn’t working as well as Slade hoped and it’s time to think again.

It's odd how jones gets dropped on the back of one bad performance whereas Macheda and lefondre evidently is given endless opportunities to find form.
Slade, very much has his faveorites. Jones has 8 goals and 3 assists in 13 games. It makes him the most effective player in the team.

most of the game I watched was 4-3-2-1 there number 21- and 23 ripped us apart every time

Slade will employ the famous Christmas tree formation over the festive period. Mike Bassett swears by it

Gunnars has been really poor and needs to be rested. We desperately need a number 10 who can run the game, like Lawrence, Pritchard and Wes Hoolihan have against us.

We have quite a few no 10s, or had, as it may turn out... Problem is slade doesn't use no 10s.

We are being over run in the middle of the park every game but surprise surprise, no change!

There's nobody on the pitch with any real leadership skills or even a football brain!
First half yesterday with a standard 4-4-2 neither Whitts or Gunnar seemed to realise that one of them needed to remain deep. Second half and in a 4-4-2 diamond, Harris at the top, Gunnar at the base, things looked better. Gunnar stayed back and things were more solid. If there had been someone out there actually in charge (Hudson!!) it would have been sorted before it was too late! It seems that if things don't work they have to wait until half time for things to be spelt out for them!!
Incidentally, the diamond in the second half would have been ideal for Dhaeli to play in where Harris was!! .... or Ravel or even Kimbo would do well there!

We have a piss poor midfield but its not Gunnar thats the problem. We'd be lost without him.

We haven't got players to really work in a 442 and Slade will sort that out in January.

Dhaeli, an before anyone says he's too lightweight, take a look at Pritchard for Brentford.
Ravel, we should have been doing everything we could to keep him at the club.
Kim, maybe a run in the team will help him get his confidence back. He caused Man City havoc last season

People go on about leadership but it doesnt wash with me, Hudson was a great captain but I dont think plonking him into Slades defence would have made any difference to our season.

Here's an idea then, lets not play 4-4-2 while we dont have the players for it. Slades stubborness and lack of plan is unbelievable. I think we all know what we can expect in January, im dreading it.
