Cardiff City still in promotion race, says Peter Whittingham

Cardiff midfielder Peter Whittingham says the Bluebirds are still in the hunt for a promotion place.

Russell Slade's side are 11th in the Championship, nine points behind leaders Bournemouth, who beat them 5-3 in their last match.

But Whittingham believes Cardiff can catch the sides above them including Saturday's opponents, Brentford.

"We've had a look at the teams above us and we don't see any reason why we can't catch them," he said.
"We know in this division teams can beat anyone and you can easily go two or three games where you don't win.
"But if you go and win two or three games you can catch a lot of teams."

Cardiff City have taken 16 points out of a possible 18 in their last six home league matches.

Their last defeat in the Championship in the Welsh capital was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's last match in charge on 16 September, against Middlesbrough.

Newly promoted Brentford, who are fifth in the league, seven points above the Bluebirds, have won two of their last three matches on the road.

Cardiff fell behind inside 39 seconds against Bournemouth and Whittingham says he and his team-mates will have to improve to
beat the Bees.

"We need to be better from the start than we were against Bournemouth. It wasn't good enough," said Whittingham.
"We know that we haven't really started well in enough games this season, but I think at home especially, if we start well then the fans will get right behind us and then we are a real force, as we've shown with the results at home.
"We know a result on Saturday sends us right back in amongst it."

Whittingham says Brentford will provide a similar challenge to top of the table Bournemouth.

The 30-year-old former Aston Villa player also believes that how Cardiff do in their busy festive schedule could also determine if they bounce straight back to the Premier League.

"I think Brentford seem to be a lot similar to Bournemouth. They want to play it, they want to pass it," said Whittingham.
"We've prepared all through the week for how they play, the players we need to watch out for and we just need to take the game plan into the game now.
"We've got some tough games coming up, but we seem to be doing better against the teams that are up there than the other way around at the minute.
"We need to be getting points on the board and hopefully that can happen over Christmas and just keep turning over some results."

Whitts should keep his mouth shut
can talk the talk but cant walk the walk
hes gutless in midfield scared to get stuck in in case he hurts his multi million £ body
shit out again today in 50 50 tackles
continually backs off and marks space just to make it look like hes making an effort
I lost count how many times he passed to one of our defenders to put across or pass in instead of taking responceabilty himself
how many times do we fans have to say it whitts is a weak link in a 4 man midfield :bluescarf:
