Our Season Stats to Date

Fri Dec 19, 2014 11:22 pm

Passing

We have the fifth worst passing accuracy in the Division only behind Rotherham, Birmingham, Sheff Weds and strangely Ipswich...

Possession

We are the worst (well joint worst with Brum) team in the division for retaining possession of the ball we average only 45% possession Derby are at 56%

Tackles Made

We are in the top three in the average number of tackles we make only behind Leeds.

Interceptions and Offsides

We are middle of the road on each one of these

Shots against

We are concede the fifth highest number of shots against with the exception of Charlton the others are in the bottom four!

Shots for

We are again in the bottom four with only Blackpool, Leeds and Charlton averages less shots per game

Shots on target

We average again in the bottom six, we're at about 3 compared to Bournemouth, Blackburn and Norwich who have nearly twice as many.

Types of passes

The only team that plays less short passes than Cardiff are Brum, we average 282 per game, compare that to Derby and Bournemouth who are at 450. We're in the bottom four on average number of crosses per game, but we're also not a long ball team as there are only 6 teams with less long balls per game.

Fouls

We've committed the least number of fouls in the division

Types of goals

On the types of goals scored we're again middle of the road, 16 from open play compared to Derby's 32 and Sheff Weds 9. No team is a big counter attacker with the most counter attacking goals being three, we've had one. We're in the top third on goals from set pieces.

Sided

We are slightly lopsided with 41% of our attacks coming down the right, 36 on the left.

Zones

Cardiff have spent the forth lowest amount of time in the opposition half.

Player Ratings

This is only based on players with total appearances greater than the average number of appearances in Championship of which there are 331 players.

Our top three players:

Whitts @ no. 41
Kenwynne Jones @ 48
Sean Morrison @ no. 56

Note: If you allow Manga in because of appearances he is rated the ninth best player in the Championship.

Our Bottom Three:

Ralls @ no. 289
Macheda @ no. 301
LeFondre @ no. 311 (and he's played nearly twice as many minutes as the player below him i.e. for players who've played the time he has nobody is worse)

We also have Adyemi at 285, Noone 221,

And before the saviour returns Joe Mason is at 297 :-(

Summary

I could go on but you're probably falling asleep now. So what this tells me, yes it is my opinion, we are not a very good passing team and hence fail to retain possession. This becomes even more of a problem when we enter the opposition's half. We don't get crosses in to the box to create chances and we do fight as we've made a lot of tackles, but to get the ball back we've lost - good news fouls are low so we're clean or "nice" tacklers. Oh! I know this because I've been watching this crap all season. The strange thing is looking at the stats alone I'd expect us to be lower down the table.

How do you put that lot right?
