QPR boss Harry Redknapp set to gamble on Ravel Morrison

Fri Dec 19, 2014 11:16 pm

HARRY REDKNAPP is ready to rescue Ravel Morrison and give the controversial young midfielder a final throw of the dice in top-flight football.

"I could be his last chance," admitted the QPR manager last night.

Troubled Morrison's loan spell at Championship club Cardiff was cut short and he has returned to West Ham, where he has been reduced to training with the Under-21 team, his future in the balance.

West Ham appear ready to sell him or even cancel his £15,0000-a-week contract in January, after a series of off-field scrapes.

Morrison was cleared last month of threatening to throw acid in the face of his ex-girlfriend and have her killed. But he will still stand trial at Manchester Crown Court next month on three remaining charges of assault.

Yet Redknapp is prepared to give the youngster he has labelled "an amazing talent" another chance at struggling Rangers.

Redknapp signed Morrison on loan last season and got six goals in 15 games in return which helped Rangers win promotion back to the top flight.

"I like him," said Redknapp. "I liked him as a kid, but he's had problems. He has got to sort himself out.

"He has obviously got to look at himself, but I'm open to taking those chances with people. I have done it before over the years, so maybe I will do it again.

"I didn't ever find there was anything nasty about him. But is he going to be one of those that's going to waste his career unless he gets his finger out quickly?

"It's a gamble, but if you are in the business of getting people in on loans, then you are in the gambling business, aren't you?

"I don't think it would be too much of a gamble. He's got the ability to play. He is an amazing talent. He glides over the pitch.

Ravel Morrison looks destined to leave West Ham again in January, maybe for good this time, which if this is the case Harry Redknapp has admitted that he could be interested in the winger.

Morrison enjoyed a successful spell with us last season with Redknapp telling TalkSport Sports Breakfast that he wouldn't have a problem bringing him back in January, but this would have to be in a loan capacity.

Redknapp does concede that as much as he didn't have any problems with him and an 'attitude' during his loan spell at Loftus Road there has to be an issue somewhere if both Sir Alex Ferguson and Sam Allardyce haven't been able to 'tame him'.

He said: 'I like Ravel. He came last year and I didn't have any problems with him.

'There has got to be a problem with Ravel if Sir Alex Ferguson can't deal with him and Big Sam can't deal with him, so he needs to sort himself out, but he is a real talent and when he was with me he was as good as gold.

'He is a good kid and his ability is just amazing. We can't buy anybody, we are looking at a few loans that can help the team, help the squad. He is one that someone has mentioned to me and he is one we could be interested in - if West Ham want to release him.'

The 21-year-old has already had a failed loan with Cardiff this season and we have one 'difficult to manage' player in Abel Taarabt, so do we really want another that could disrupt the harmony of the squad - even if he's as talented as Morrison is....

I've not seen anything near enough from Morrison to suggest he is worth the trouble. If a player is as good as Maradona or Pele or Zidane then maybe it's worth dealing with the baggage. Otherwise, it's not. Looks like Redknapp is getting desperate.
