Cardiff City striker Joe Mason out for two months after suffering horror injury while training for Bolton Wanderers

Joe Mason could be heading back to Cardiff City prematurely after tearing his hamstring in training at Bolton Wanderers, where he's currently on loan.

Joe Mason has handed Cardiff City another blow after being sidelined for eight weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Bluebirds striker, who had looked set for a return in January, will be out of action for two months after suffering a tear in his hamstring.

Just weeks after Russell Slade had said he was watching Mason's progress with great interest , the 23-year-old pulled up in a training and is now set for a prolonged period on the sidelines.

He is at the Macron Stadium on a season-long loan but can be called back and now Trotters boss Neil Lennon says he will be speaking to Cardiff about the situation.

He told the Bolton official website: "We'll speak to Cardiff about the situation as it looks like he'll be out for a while.

"At this moment we're looking at between six and eight weeks, so we'll see how things develop and take it from there."

Joe Mason had been enjoying his third loan spell at Bolton, but the Cardiff striker will now be sidelined for at least two month due to a hamstring injury.

In his 14 appearances for Bolton he's scored an impressive enough four goals, perhaps not as good as his second spell with them last season, but it'll be a month or two before he's back in action with Bolton manager Neil Lennon saying that he'll be on the sidelines for at least six to eight weeks due to a torn hamstring.

There have been some reports that he could return to the Bluebirds but two months, as things stand, isn't going to 'end his season' so it's difficult to believe that ending his loan is something that will happen.

If this injury proved longer term perhaps he'll come back sooner? More news when we know it!
