A forum for all things Cardiff City

That's the truth of it now. I wish I could say that I won't be renewing my season ticket. I wish I could turn my back on Cardiff City.
In the last few days, there have been several fans who have declared that this is it for them. Fans who have been supporting City for a lot longer than I have. This makes me sad, that fans who have been there for decades and decades are turning their back on the club.
But I get it. I don't think this is entirely about the rebrand. Of course, the rebrand is a big factor in it. But there's more. It's the way we are treated as fans. It makes it even worse that away fans are treated brilliantly by "our club". Why can't they treat the 15-16,000 who turn up week in, week out the same?
I say "our club", but it's not our club anymore. It's not the club we know and love. In recent years, we've had so many good memories. League Cup and FA Cup finals, and thatfamous Michael Chopra goal are perfect examples. Yes, we've had great moments in red as well, nobody can deny that. But did it feel the same? Would promotion have felt all the more sweeter had we done it in our true colours?
The sad fact of this all is that Cardiff City will never play in blue while Vincent Tan is running the show. He talks of a compromise, but we've heard it all before from him. I'm sure he'll come out with the same old lines when next season's season tickets go on sale.
I don't go to every home match, due to my location. But can anyone actually say they've been to a home match this season and genuinely enjoyed it? Not me, I've been to seven or eight. Again, that's not just about the rebrand. Don't forget we were getting nearly 30,000 last season some weeks.
It's the general vibe around the club, it doesn't do it for me anymore. I've been to away games and they've been so much more enjoyable.
We have a 33,000 seater stadium and, if we don't go up which is likely, we'll be lucky to get 15,000 in there. There's no atmosphere, there's nothing to get excited about. The club has lost it's way in the last few months and the fans are rapidly losing their passion.
Season ticket sales could be embarrassing.
So, after I've said all this, why won't I walk away? Because I simply can't. I want to, I wish I could just wash my hands of this club and not return until we're in our rightful colours. But it's not going to happen, I don't think. I can't stop myself from going. I would happily boycott a match and protest with other fans. I have the blue shirt from this season, but even looking at and wearing that makes me sad with that badge.
It's not the club we know and love. I'd go as far as to say that if I wasn't a fan of Cardiff City, it would be one of the clubs I'd hate the most. It's right up there with MK Dons in my view.
I should be at the Watford game, and maybe it'll be so bad that I'll change my mind about renewing - but right now, my love for what the club has been in the past is too strong.
Finally, I take my hat off to all those who aren't renewing. Well done for doing what fans like myself can't bring ourselves to do.

We all make our own choices....
I am not renewing unless we go back to blue, we are the bluebirds, the badge bothers me less because we are what we want to be and what we call ourselves....
I won't be walking away, i will buy tickets when it suits me. The season ticket is a badge of honour, a declaration of intent to support your team whatever. IMO thats been taken for granted too long.....
Vinnie- customers can bite back, ask Gerald Ratner.

Man the f**k up!
No, seriously, everybody has a right to choose for themselves if they want to try to get our identity back but I find it disappointing to see those that won't.
I think a season out is a very small price to pay. A very small sacrifice in the bigger picture of things. I say this as I've been going down for decades & my first game down at Ninian Park was many years ago & featured Toshack & Clark up front.
However, each to their own.

For an outsider like me, Cardiff would maybe have been a club to hate (like the Dons), but Tan´s attempts to turn this club into his personal playground, actually has the opposite effect on me. I strongly sympathize with your case, and my growing antipathy towards Tan and his lack of respect for the clubs traditions and fan base, makes my support and love for the pure Cardiff even stronger.

Free the bluebird!

Its not just the rebrand and the shirt and badge.........its the total lack of respect that man has for Cardiff city and its fans. He is a tyrant who bullies his way around the world. Well ive had enough of his shite, im only going to away games next season.

About time people realized what Tan is about. Its taken a few years but finally most people seem to agree he has to go.Never wanted him or his red money. Anyway lets all unite and finally get rid of the dictatorship, welcome to the modern world Tan where dictatorships will not be tolerated. Bluearmy

I,ve had some fantastic times in Ninian Park and on the road, but I wont be renewing because I have lost interest in modern football. The new stadium is just a soulless lump of concrete, like so many grounds these days.Even when we are winning matches I dont enjoy the afternoon, and would much rather be in the pub.

The time of the post says it all.

Either go, or don't go. Fans have always stopped going down the City for one reason or another. Might be for part of a season, a year or two, or forever. First I remember is selling Toshack. Nothing new under the sun. New fans always come in their place.

Not renewing doesnt mean turning your back on the team. I dont want to renew as I dont feel ill want to go to every game and I have more important things to spend my money on. I hope ill still make games and let be honest if a lot of people dont renew which it seems they wont then the club will be putting out a lot of offers for tickets, even more so than this season.
Tue Dec 16, 2014 1:59 pm
ticket sales will next year fall beneath the psychological 20,000 level.
the problem is that vincent tan has deep pockets and can afford to lose a couple of thousand fans without any problems at all. 3,000 fans not renewing next year would only mean a drop in income of about £1m. he spent almost that figure on the legal fees to dig up dirt about mackay.
its basically become personal with tan, and thats strange. a man who is here to ultimately make money, is so vindictive towards CCFC fans that he is prepared to forego money. what a berk. he'll get his comeuppance when he gets a lower price for the club when he sells a club with a dwindling paying fan base.

This season ticket thing is a fairly recent development anyway. There were always STs, of course, but most people just turned up at the turnstiles, paid, and walked onto the terraces. Only in the stands, mainly the grandstand, were STs really needed. Only since Sam's day have STs really taken off. I never had a ST at Ninian Park. There was never any need!
The Riddler said that ST sales were a good indicator to prospective buyers of how big a club was. Hence the drive to sell STs, and the price freeze. Remember, too, that the money was supposed to go on players?
Next season we might well be back to the situation where the majority walk up on the day.

I'm in a similar position where I live away, but attend what home games I can and have done a few away games this season. I can empathise with what your saying and I've felt the same for a couple of years now but I've stuck with city because I've promised that I will turn up and protest until we return to our rightful identity. But where I differ is I believe we need to all stand together and take back our club. Fan power is under estimated in this country and if we all act together we can change things in our favour, if that means boycotting home games or whatever, I'm in.

I won't be renewing simply because the match day experience at home now, is absolute shit and for me will never be the same whilst the rebrand remains. I will get my fix from the away games, which are 100 times more enjoyable for a variety of reasons. I am not one for hoping that the club fails, I hope we get promoted, but its a case of once bitten twice shy and I know now that not even Premiership football would improve the home supports demeanour.
