Just makes you wonder.

Wales internationals:

Football range from 6,000 up to 27,000 on a good night.
Rugby hits above 70,000 hence why it is worth pouring money into it for that odd occasional piss up.

Most of those 70,000 don't have any regular interest in the game and are just treating it as a social event which they can say they were at.

Like Glastonbury - most of the people are there to pose and boast to their friends that they were there rather than going because they like the bands.

Although I agree with you, as regards the leading clubs playing at the top level in their various sports. At the lower levels, Rugby would still come out way on top. Ton Pentre are probably the best known football team in the Rhondda, average crowd 40. The nearest Rugby teams playing at a similar level, Ystrad Rhondda pull 100, Treorchy more like 200. Penygraig Utd in the Amateur League pull 20, Penygraig Rugby get at least a ton through the gates. Add all these crowds up throughout the Valleys, and the bigger Cities, then the Egg is still the biggest draw overall throughout South Wales , I wish it wasn't true, but sadly it is.

Football is a much bigger sport in Wales than rugby will ever be. Over twice as many men are registered with clubs playing football than rugby that's male and female football dominates.

Media will have you believe that wales stops at Brecon. As nothing gets reported from up north in regards to sport but its football dominated as are Newport Swansea and Cardiff.

I think we're talking about how many people go to watch games, not how many play.

No arguments about that at all, the only problem is very few people go to watch them. I watch amateur league football most weeks, the crowds are tiny, whereas local rugby teams still pull fairly decent crowds. :thumbright:

I do agree, there are passionate fans for both sports, but I just get fed up of everyone believing and saying football is 2nd to rugby in Wales.

For the big teams, I completely agree with you, football comes out way on top, you've only got to see the crowds ourselves and the Jerks get compared to the Blues and Ospreys. I'd still say that Rugby is number one overall spectator wise, with all the smaller clubs still having decent crowds. Also at Junior level, Boys Clubs are really struggling, whereas Mini Rugby is booming in the Valleys at least. Have a good day in Bournemouth, I'm off to Brecon to watch Ystrad Rhondda play rugby, might not bother with the game though :laughing6:

Football is massive in Cardiff, one of the reasons we have produced some top players over the years.

rugby to me is slow and boring and most only go on internationals for a piss up.

if Cardiff were a top 5 premier side I honestly believe we could get at least 40,000 every other week

by average attendances, about as many as you can count on your hands.
