Wales internationals:
Football range from 6,000 up to 27,000 on a good night.
Rugby hits above 70,000 hence why it is worth pouring money into it for that odd occasional piss up.

Most of those 70,000 don't have any regular interest in the game and are just treating it as a social event which they can say they were at.
Like Glastonbury - most of the people are there to pose and boast to their friends that they were there rather than going because they like the bands.

Ton Pentre are probably the best known football team in the Rhondda, average crowd 40. The nearest Rugby teams playing at a similar level, Ystrad Rhondda pull 100, Treorchy more like 200. Penygraig Utd in the Amateur League pull 20, Penygraig Rugby get at least a ton through the gates. Add all these crowds up throughout the Valleys, and the bigger Cities, then the Egg is still the biggest draw overall throughout South Wales , I wish it wasn't true, but sadly it is.

Media will have you believe that wales stops at Brecon. As nothing gets reported from up north in regards to sport but its football dominated as are Newport Swansea and Cardiff.

No arguments about that at all, the only problem is very few people go to watch them. I watch amateur league football most weeks, the crowds are tiny, whereas local rugby teams still pull fairly decent crowds.
