Cardiff City striker Adam Le Fondre warns Bluebirds over being 'too cocky' against AFC Bournemouth.

The Cherries will host Russell Slade's side six points and places better off than the Bluebirds and after beating them earlier in the Capital One Cup this season.

Adam Le Fondre is fired up for Cardiff City’s Championship clash with AFC Bournemouth on Saturday – and he has reasons to score on two fronts.

‘Alfie’ is fed up losing against the Cherries, having suffered three times against them over the last 12 months.

The striker played for Reading when they were beaten 2-1 at home last December and then lost 3-1 at Dean Court in April. Then Le Fondre played 90 minutes for Cardiff against Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup and the seasiders swept to a 3-0 victory.

“To be fair Bournemouth were brilliant last season and while I was playing at Reading they battered us home and away,” says Le Fondre. “Then look at the cup tie Cardiff played against us. They annihilated us.

“They are an extremely good team and their manager, Eddie Howe, has them playing well. If we underestimate them in any way or take it easy they will take advantage. But we will be absolutely ready for what is a huge test.

“Bournemouth were promoted automatically two years ago and have done really well in the Championship.

“A week later we play Brentford, who are a similar type of club, at home. They came up after finishing second last season and have made an outstanding start to their season.

“Brentford have their own way of playing, they pop the ball around fluently. These next two matches are both difficult tests and we have to understand that. Any team who is too cocky against teams like Bournemouth and Brentford will have little chance of taking anything from the match.”
Cardiff lie ninth in the Championship, while Bournemouth third, Brentford are fifth and that means a couple of Cardiff wins would be manager Russell Slade and his players the power of good in the build-up to Christmas.

“We are eight points from the top, seven away second and two outside the play-off places, while teams down to 14th and 15th are still right in touch. Three games in this league is a week and the situation can turn around for anybody.

“Both Bournemouth and Brentford can hit outstanding form, but we will focus on what we need to do and we need to stay consistent over the remaining matches up to and after Christmas.

“We need to show we can mount a sustained challenge and that’s what we intend to do.”

Cardiff have earned 17 points from the nine matches since Slade became manager, while they are unbeaten in their last four matches and have four Championship fixtures between now and the new year.

The Bluebirds take on Bournemouth (away), Brentford (home), Charlton (away) and Watford (home).

The first of those matches is a massive test against in-form Bournemouth, who are unbeaten since early October in a run of eight wins and three draws. They have lost only once since mid September and that was 2-0 against Championship leaders Derby County away.

They also have 11-goal hitman Callum Wilson back after injury and he helped Bournemouth win 2-1 against Wolves at Molineux.

“After the first half I felt any cobwebs were gone and I started getting back into it properly,” says Wilson.

"Cardiff City striker Adam Le Fondre warns Bluebirds over being 'too cocky' against AFC Bournemouth."

You've got to laugh at that statement - it should be Eddie Howe who is the one telling HIS players not to get too cocky against a lower placed team who are playing poorly.

I can understand what Le Fondre means, it just doesn't look good in print! Bournemouth are the favourites for this one and I'm expecting the possession stats to be close to 80/20 in favour of Bmth.

Slade's tactics will be pushed to its limit as Bmth not having trouble scoring goals

It's the journalistic attention seeking headline that is nonsense and inaccurate.

I looked at the heading and thought what the hell, we are cocky about playing Bournemouth but if you actually read the article it's not what Le Fondre actually says.

Don't you envy the fans of Bournemouth and Brentford a little, clubs who have come up to this level, are well run, fully in tune with their support, players giving everything for their team and their club colours, performing way above expectation with bright inventive attacking football, with bright young managers, and with other teams and their supporters underestimating them.

Then there is my club Cardiff City - and that just makes me sad. Especially when I recall the enthusiasm and excitement of that first season back in the Championship.

Still I've had replies to my letter saying I shouldn't criticise Vincent Tan and we've never had it so good!

Striker Adam Le Fondre has said he wants to be on the right side of the result this time when we face Bournemouth this weekend.

In the last 12 months the striker has been on the losing side three times, culminating in our Capital One Cup loss to them earlier this season and whilst he told Wales Online that he was full of admiration for how they played, he's desperate to pick up a victory.

'To be fair Bournemouth were brilliant last season and while I was playing at Reading they battered us home and away. Then look at the cup tie. They are an extremely good team and their manager, Eddie Howe, has them playing well. It we underestimate them in any way or take it easy they will take advantage. But we will be absolutely ready for what is a huge test.'

It wasn't just Bournemouth that got his attention though, Le Fondre knows that our game following them against Brentford will be equally as tough.

'Brentford are a similar type at home. They have their own way of playing, the pop the ball around fluently. These next two matches are both difficult tests and we have to understand that. Any team who is too cocky against teams like Bournemouth and Brentford will have little chance of taking anything from the match.'

With Cardiff being eight points from the top though, the summer signing clearly knows what six points from the next two games would mean for us, especially as both upcoming opposition are up there in 3rd and 5th place respectively, so the call as ever is that we must maintain and improve our consistency levels in matches so we can show we can mount a sustained challenge for promotion again following the disappointment over last season.
