Totally wrong Sian, it was the minority who booed, not the majority :thumbright:

Cardiff City fans feel disgruntled and it's easy to see why after watching Rotherham 'drivel' - Sian Matheson
Dec 09, 2014

Cardiff City season ticket holder Sian Matheson admits she was in the minority of fans who didn't boo at full time against Rotherham but says she understands why fans did.

The Cardiff City players were booed by their own fans against Rotherham United.

Cardiff City's performance against Rotherham was dire, dismal and disappointing – but was there really a need to boo at the final whistle?

I’m probably in the minority who didn’t boo at the end, but, as frustrated as I was watching that dross on the field, we still picked up a point and kept a clean sheet. If we had been defeated, fair enough, I can’t say for certain that I wouldn’t have joined in.

But I guess therein lies the problem.

On the pitch the performances have hardly been scintillating, despite picking up points but the off-pitch antics such as the Vincent Tan factor, the rebrand, Malky Mackay, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the general state of the club has all come to a head and led to fans feeling like they’ve simply had enough.

Loyal fans who pay their hard-earned cash have every right to feel disgruntled when forced to watch such drivel.

But, whilst I don’t condone booing the players off the pitch, I certainly understand and empathise with my fellow fans and, if performances and the drama carries on the way they are, it will be interesting to see how many fans renew their season tickets with the end of the price freeze. So, what happened over the space of a week? In the win at Watford, Cardiff put on a determined show to clinch an unexpected three points and a first away win. Fast forward seven days and the Bluebirds could barely manage a pass on target, let alone steal three points.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind winning ugly or even battling for a point, but against Rotherham on Saturday, there was absolutely nothing to clinch hope from. No skill, no determination, no passion and, the most disappointing of all, no desire to put up a fight.

Given our recent home form, I fully expected City to emerge triumphant against a struggling Rotherham side but, in all honesty, Cardiff were lucky to get a point. Indeed, I shudder to think what the scoreline would have been had Saturday’s opposition been a quality side.

It was so frustrating to watch as Cardiff failed to even do the basics right, giving away the ball far too cheaply, banging the ball upfield to no-one and sloppy passing all round.

I’m not even sure we had a midfield against Rotherham and every single time Cardiff did have any possession, the opposition closed down and pressurised, resulting in City losing the ball.

I think it’s fair to say I failed to see any of Cardiff’s players putting pressure on the opposition for the entire 90 minutes.

That’s especially evident with Kenwyne Jones. As I’ve said before, I’m a fan of Jones but he looked totally disinterested and scarcely ran at the opposition keeper, even when the stopper is kicking from hands.

Surely the big fella should use his physique to scare players and force them into errors? I know it would me if he came rushing towards me at a canter!

Although, credit it to him at the other end of the pitch, he did clear a Rotherham strike off the line. Jones certainly was not the only one to disappoint in the Bluebirds’ worst display so far this season which has led to some fans already calling for Slade’s departure. I don’t agree.

Yes, Slade picks the team and formation but he can’t be blamed for the total lack of effort from his players and I suppose he was forced into substitutions after injuries.

I still think the gaffer needs time and, after all, Cardiff have picked up 17 points in his nine games in charge, which is not a bad return to date.

But, in all honestly, Slade needs a big clear-out in January and must threaten his current favourites they will be shown the exit if they don’t start performing.

Plus, I desperately think he needs to bring in another leader.

On Saturday I watched as Rotherham players were all screaming orders at each other, yet, apart from Aron Gunnarsson on one occasion, there was silence from the Cardiff side.

A big voice in the middle of the pitch is definitely needed, someone to organise and communicate.

I know David Marshall is captain and he is not shy when it comes to shouting from behind but there’s only so much a skipper in the goal can do.

It was particularly frustrating to watch as Matt Connolly, a natural centre-half playing at full-back, going for the same aerial balls against his team-mate Sean Morrison.

Better communication is needed all round and I really wish Solskjaer hadn’t let Mark Hudson go to Huddersfield, how we could have used him at the moment.

The Bluebirds looked devoid of ideas as to how to break down Rotherham and I, like others, would like to see the skillful Mats Daehli being used more. He was on the bench, so Slade may as well use him and at least give him a chance to show what he can do at this level.

All in all, Saturday was a disappointment and the Bluebirds must improve dramatically going into Saturday’s clash at Bournemouth otherwise I fear we could be in for a hiding worse than the Capital One Cup 3-0 drubbing at the hands of the high-flying Cherries.

Unfortunately fans pay the money for entertainment and get ripped off. Can you imagine paying to get entertained to watch a live band and they play for 30 minutes then go home then I'm sure they will feel disgruntled as well.
Only thing was that our team played for ten minutes on Saturday if that.
It was the amount of passion they put into that performance that annoyed our supporters.

I totally agree that the fans deserve better, but I dont think turning on them at matches at this moment in time is right, were not relegation candidates, just my opinion. But I respect all fans opinions to do what they feel is right :thumbright:

BUT IT IS DIRE & MANY ARE VOTING WITH THEIR FEET.

We're not relegation candidates? Of course we're not we should be top of the league with the players we have and they're underachieving! The fact that Le Fondre was probably one of our stand out performers on Saturday because be 'ran around a little' proves how poor we've been.

I think that Slade had done well so far inheriting a bunch of over paid players. His points tally is respectable to be honest.cant wait for him to get some new players in.

I didn't boo myself. I can't imagine booing my own team. But I can understand the reasons behind it for other fans.

You shouldnt turn on your team simple as that! I can say I have bood maybe once or twice in 28 years watching the city and a very long time ago.

Don't know what could be considered as a majority with the attendance on Saturday but the boo's were pretty loud in the Canton and could see the Ninian Stand with fans throwing their arms and booing also.

It was a minority that booed in the Ninian. It was a poor performance and a dire game, however in my opinion it did not deserve fans booing, especially as we took a point and have been on a fairly decent run of results under Slade, but each to their own, I guess
