So which tactical failings was he guilty of over the last 4 years?
Hoofball, No Plan B, no idea on substitutions, playing Mooney week in week out, hoofball, not resting Moses,
Even last season the majority of home performances were woeful because his lack of tactical nous meant we couldn't vary things. Did I mention hoofball? Whenever the players ignored him and passed on the deck and played with a bit of tempo we looked good.
Good luck Russ - Nice man and he deserves a crack at this.
He can set up a defence and is a great man-manager, not enough for Cardiff - gone by Easter when Tan calls for Pullis to get them out of trouble ( Pulis is Wale-ish you know)sounds familiar
they also says he will won't make substitutions until the last minutes even if players are having a nightmare

You gotta laugh. Why don't we top it off and get bobby gould in. I've always thought glen roeder was a f#cking asshole as well. We've always got scott young to fall back on.

I see a pattern here!
Especially with all the long hopeful balls constantly.

I'm not bothered about long balls if they actually target Kenwyne Jones, but they don't... They aim for le Fondre who has no chance of beating the CB.

Nothing like supporting the team/manager!!

But a lot of the long balls forward are not even aimed at anyone in particular.
I see a lot of hopeful balls just kicked down the flanks for anyone to chase. Park football tactics.

Bit harsh, thought we played with a bit of tempo under DJ.
4-4-2 is so old now though.

its results that matter. and fans should acknowledge that so far slades have been very good.
style of play is irrelevant as this league is all about getting promotion. under malky we were a long ball and set pieces team, but won most weeks so no one cared about the style

What is the purpose of this thread? Slade has inherited Ole's squad, got them fitter and dramatically improved us. Yes, we are all asking why he doesn't utilise Daehli more, but I think it's pretty obvious Slade is being instructed to play him as little as possible so he doesn't get injured before we sell him in January. Cala has already been offloaded by Tan and I worry Turner will go after his recent comments too. If Turner is missing from the team this Saturday, it will obviously be another Cala situation.
It's obvious certain players aren't playing because Tan wants to offload them. Tan doesn't want certain players to get injured. Like I've said before, let's wait until Tan clears out Daehli, Guerra and the other players he wants to reduce our wage bill and see what Slade can do when/if he gets the opportunity to bring his own players in. It's only when Slade has assembled his own squad we have the right to judge him. Those already judging Slade when he's working with Ole's squad with one arm tied behind his back are being very unreasonable imo.

The purpose is to show that the hoof ball and static 4-4-2 with the same team week in and out no matter how shit they are is what slade does. Some people have been saying he will play better football once he gets his own squad. But he had his own squad at Orient and they still complained about hoofball, no plan B and lack of tactical nous.
Seems like he is good at setting a strong defensive unit, and thats pretty much it.

The difference is Slade had to bring in 30 free transfers at Orient so it's hardly surprising the football wasn't great. Still, it's a results business and Slade did a brilliant job results wise at Orient. Slade hasn't been able to bring any of his own players in yet to change things. You're being unreasonable.

My way at looking at all this is Slade inherited a squad none of his doing. From listening to pundits and all it seems a squad with a bit of quality but a total misfit. However he has done better than the previous guy whose squad it was. So that alone he has earned the right to at least bring in his own in January.

Seems to me we are playing the sort of football we played when Chris Pike was our target man. Hit high balls up the middle, hope he holds it up long enough to bring others into play. Worked reasonably well then, but that was in a lower division against less gifted defenders. I don't think it will work in this league, particularly as we are doing it in every game. Opposing teams know exactly what we are going to do, and set themselves up to defend against this long ball game that they know we will play. I worry that this is the only way Slade knows, and that maybe he is not up to managing at the level he now finds himself at. Only time will tell. but I am far from convinced so far.

So you are saying that because he had a shit squad everywhere he HAD to play hoof ball everyday, never change the tactics and no creativity? Thats just an excuse.
Face it, this is the kind of manager he is, every manager has a preference in how they like to play. If arsene wenger inherited OGS squad he wouldn't play hoof ball just because it isn't his squad because he doesnt believe in that kind of football. He would pick the players that could handle pass and move. Slade favours hoof ball and a strong defence. Thats his thing.

Orient played some great football last season like this.

I wonder what LonCar thinks of Slade's "hoof ball" there?
Not bad for a squad of 30 free transfers.

Marshall's not aiming for Le Fondre. We all know Marshall can't kick straight. The ball falls between the two strikers and only Le Fondre can be arsed to move towards it. Jones just can't be bothered unless the ball comes straight to him and even then he loses more headers than he wins.

Puzzled Slade known for quick passing game! Got to play off final on very limited resources? Yet he's being slated for long ball game total contradiction of what happened last season.

Are you seriously suggesting that is impressive? That is an incredibly slow build up.There is no pace at all and the opposition doesn't seem to be pressing the ball with any kind of urgency. It's all very pedestrian. If we could play that slowly in the championship perhaps we'd manage to string more than 2 passes together.
