4 4 2 Formation

Don't post very often but need to get this off my chest. If you set up as 4 4 2 and want to play possession football then you need good enough players generally and in particular in central midfield to do that. I would argue that our central 2 and second striker are not good enough in that formation. Our ball players, such as Daehli, Wittingham, Morrison, Burgstaller, Kim, Ralls, Eikrem, need to set up behind a capable striker so they can do their stuff. Use 4231 or 433 and fit the ball players into that side easily. 4 4 2 is dinosaur football unless your players are much better than the opposition.

I would go 4-2-3-1 with the players we have

Alf as a lone striker

Not really a line striker with Ravel just behind him. Encourage us to pass the ball and with his movement off the ball we have the players near him to find him. What would you go with?

Alf had not played like a poacher this season. Constant chasing down and clever movement but no one close to play through balls or balls into his feet. Once again, who would you play?
