Russell Slade - " We Still Need To Do Better "
Sunday 7th Dec 2014
Manager Russell Slade has said although Cardiff are adding points to our tally he still knows we are capable of far more and we need to be better than we are.
Speaking to the Official Site following the scoreless draw against Rotherham United, Slade admitted he was disappointed not to have come away with more but he accepts we certainly didn't play as well as we know we are capable.
'I'm really disappointed. I think the whole changing room is disappointed, because we got a terrific result last week, then we trained very well. Sometimes has a manager, you don't see that kind of performance coming, because we were below par.'
Slade goes on to say it was also disappointing to see us create so little on the day and he knows we didn't move the ball quick enough, especially to the wide areas but part of that he knew was how well Rotherham pressed us and he had to give them credit for that, but he still expects better.
With us not creating enough and not getting wide quick enough that obviously affected the number of quality balls we got into the box and that was something else he was disappointed with because that wasn't the game plan we had worked on and planned on executing.
Despite the below par performance though, he did have some overall positives.
'In my nine games here we've won five, drawn one and lost the two and I think that's fairly consistent. That was also our third clean sheet in four. Are we the finished article? Of course we're not. Have we got a lot of work to do? Of course we have. We need to improve in every area if we're going to get to where we need to get.'
But with that said, Slade can point to the fact that points wise he feels we are on track as we averaging roughly two a game and that's the turn around he was looking for in our form, so it's about further improvement now and consistency going forward and having achieved that already, with improvement to come, for him it bodes well for the second half of the campaign.
