Cardiff City defender Ben Turner admits fans are unhappy as Bluebirds are booed off
By Terry Phillips
The Cardiff supporters made their frustrations clear as they booed the team off following a dismal 0-0 draw with lowly Rotherham
Cardiff defender Ben Turner has told his team-mates they must do better to silence the boos at Cardiff City Stadium as he admitted Bluebirds fans are clearly unhappy.
The Cardiff supporters made their frustrations clear as they booed the team off following a dismal 0-0 draw with lowly Rotherham.
Turner admitted it is down to the players to lift the gloom but he insisted off-field issues are affecting the atmosphere among supporters.
Many fans remain disgruntled over Vincent Tan's decision to rebrand the club, while a series of controversies, including the Malky Mackay scandal and the disastrous reign of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, have made it difficult to generate a feeling of optimism in the Welsh capital.
Turner said: “We were booed, but it’s difficult because how the fans are feeling is more than just about the 11 blokes they are watching.
“For me it has to be about what is happening on the pitch and the more support we get the better it is. Hopefully we will be cheered off next time. It’s up to us to get the crowd going, but it’s a different atmosphere to how it was when we were promoted last time.
“Our job, though, remains the same. We want to go back up.
“We didn’t play well enough to win. We are a tighter group than we have been for a while and harder to beat as a team, but there wasn’t enough football from us.”
Cardiff extended their unbeaten home run to six matches and kept a third clean sheet in four matches, but they struggled to find any fluency going forward and were booed by many home supporters during the second half.
Manager Russell Slade’s team struggled to get the ball wide to Craig Noone and Kim Bo-Kyung and there were far too few qualities deliveries into the Rotherham penalty area.
“It’s two points dropped for us because we hoped to beat Rotherham,” said Turner. “Our aim is to get into the play-off positions and stay in touch with the automatic promotion places. The club set-up is good enough, backing from the top is good enough and we have more than enough matches left to get there.
“We didn’t hit our top form and Rotherham were just about at their peak. They earned a point.”
City earned their first away win at Watford last weekend and followed that with another clean sheet, but could not force the win they wanted.
“We could have crumbled and lost,” said Turner. “A lot of credit must go to Rotherham because they played with a high tempo, were extremely competitive and have a manager (Steve Evans) who is a character and rallies his team.
“They deserved a point. Certainly, Rotherham competed all over the pitch. But there are positives for us. We aren’t conceding many goals, we look a team defensively. There is work to be done going forward.”

Can't argue with that

Claiming that the atmosphere is different to when they got promoted and its to do with the off field activities i.e. rebrand.
A brave statement to make. Could this be the last we see of Turner?

We have seen worse through the decades but ever booed. Then again we were known as supporters and not customers so in a way we have a right to boo now. To a degree perhaps ask for our money back as we are not getting value for it.

Agreed, I can't remember booing even though I was tempted at Ole's last game in charge! I think discontentment should be audiable especially if our mega-rich owner bothers to turn up!!

Turner trying to get Tan to want rid of him so he can engineer a move perhaps?

Annis, I haven't Been since I came back from Belgium. Couldn't face the reading game.. Just days after the experience in Brussels. The whole scenario is flat. Was working yesterday and really wasn't bothered about missing it.. I've never felt like this.. I'm normally buzzing for a Cardiff game... To be honest I've not enjoyed a single home game in 2014...
The club is a mess off, off the field we have no clue what we are doing... The football on the pitch is boring and its like a chore to watch a match... We have grinded out some results under slade so cannot fault that, however we have less possession than any other team, we create less chances. For Rotherham to have more ball and amass 12 shots on our goal is alarming.. This yrs championship is poor and we are just lucky that there's no one there grabbing the league by the scruff and running away with it..
So what is it? In our promotion yr man for man wee have much more quality, so y isn't it showing? Why do we constantly play payers out of position? Why can't we use any quality game changing creative players?

I didn't read past the first paragraph as it seemed like Ben was trying to blame everything on off field activities.
Most fans are concerned at the crap 'we're seeing on the pitch' not off it.

If this a move by Ben Turner in engineer a move away from Cardiff I really hope he's successful I can't recall ever seeing a less talented footballer in my time of watching Cardiff!!
Huw is spot on with his comments compared with recent Wales matches Cardiff games are flat & passion less from both the fans & players. The current regime from top to bottom needs changing we need an owner/chairman who understands football & the history & tradition of our club, we definitely need a proven manager at this level not a lower league journey man who cant deviate from a 442 formation & who continually alienates his quality players as he has no idea what to do with them. Even when I hear him speak he doesn't seem to have any presence & certainly doesn't fill me with any confidence & the sooner he goes the better for everybody & he can go back to the lower leagues where he's comfortable!!

I disagree. Most fans are just as concerned at the crap off the pitch than the crap on it!

Well you all have short memories or weren't there, or just in denial - but the home game v Blackpool under Dave Jones the season of the play-off final, result 1-1, played in the ice, match was dire, we went in half time 1-0 up, they equalised straight after half time.
Loads of booing at full time. Happened when we struggled to get nil in a 0-0 Tuesday night draw with Crystal Palace, I think the same season.
Really some of you need to take a good look at what you are actually writing boys - its laughable.

As a percentage of the crowd, the amount booing was very small. it was a disappointing result but that's how football is over the course of a season. I have never booed the city and never will. But the few who booed will make the headlines in Terry Phillip's column one day and be forgotten the next.

Turner is right and isn't afraid to say it. I really wish he was our captain.
