Reading 1994 vs reading 2014

Wed Dec 03, 2014 3:10 pm

After many years of viewing this forum I have finally taken the plunge and signed up to post my views. The reason I have chosen to do this now is as a direct result of seeing fans comments of the apparently dire atmosphere at the reading game recently. The reason that reading fixtures are poignant for me is because although i started to watch city in the early 90's in friendlies against the likes of merthyr and bath my first home league game was against reading on New Year's Day in 1994. We had just had our infamous battle of ninian park game against the jacks a few days before and seeing the passion that the Eddie may team played with against a high flying reading side in that game (which finished 3-0 to us) and the atmosphere that was generated in the canton got me hooked on the city for life. Since that day there has not been another football club for me and there never will. When I 1st read about the potential of the rebrand I was on the mandurah line travelling to my job in central perth. I shouted out no way thinking it must be a joke. Coincidentally I was in South Wales a few weeks later and caught up with a mate in Bristol and on my way back to merthyr. he text me to say the rebrand was going ahead. I tuned into radio wales in ponty and lo and behold he was right. Things have never been right for me as a city fan since. I'm sure there are posters on here that will see me as another individual whining about the rebrand and that is fine but I need somewhere to vent my feelings. For me ccfc died in 2012 and the passion I developed following the reading game of 94 died with it.

That Reading game in 94 was class! We got relegated that season. Reading we're flying when they came us, the atmosphere and passion shown on the pitch by our players was probably the best I've ever seen! I'll never forget Paul Millar putting in a big tackle in front of the Bob bank where I was stood, the Bob bank erupted, Millar then responded by blasting the ball into the front wall screeming "come on!!" He and the rest of the team played out of their skin that day. Vincent Tan is slowly draining the life out of a once very very proud passionate fan base! Thanks for reminding me of one of my most memorable days supporting city.
