The next three could be massive for our hopes

Tue Dec 02, 2014 6:01 pm

Victory over Watford sees the Bluebirds sit eighth in the Championship table, just two points off the play-offs and only six away from the top spot many hoped they would be challenging for at the start of the season.

Our next three games (two at home and one away) are against newly promoted Rotherham and Brentford at CCS and the one away is at Bournemouth.

At the start of the season I think we looked at the fixtures and believed that nine points would be conceivable.

Do you still think, considering the managerial changes and lack of form, that we can achieve 9 from 9 ?

If not, what do you think we will get ?

I am confident we can get 7 points but hopeful of all 9 points.

These three games could really put us right in the mix if we get the right results and set us up for the new year.

I have learned that the Championship is totally unpredictable, on current form Brentford and Bournemouth are well above us in first and fourth, probably not the best time to play those two teams. Rotherham are on a shocking run and are bottom, so on form alone I would expect about 4 points ???

But as we know, it's a lottery and now we've won away and confidence is growing , I'll go for 6 points ???

They are massive games, but doesn't matter where they are in the table, anyone can beat anyone in the league.

For me, I am only thinking about Saturday and we'll be playing against a team that will be fighting for their lives. This wont be an easy game. But the answer to your question, yes, they are massive games for our hopes.

My usual 6 from 9 question and again I would bite your hand off for 6 points!

Nine from nine would put us right in the mix.

I think 7 from nine is more realistic, my predictions:

Cardiff 2-0 Rotherham
Bournemouth 2-2 Cardiff
Cardiff 3-2 Brentford

One game at a time please guys. Everytime we seem to get our hopes up this season they seem to be shot back down to earth again after the next game. I just hope we put everything into the Rotherham game- players and fans!!!

You Cardiff boys are all about points. But i feel we really need to see some improvements on the football. If we do that, then we can look at building further. Picking up more scrappy points doesn't fill me with confidence I'm afraid.

as you now we fail against struggling teams and excel against top teams so expect 5/6pnts will be good return

I'm all in favour of some entertaining football but I would rather have a scrappy 3 points than entertaining 0 at moment :bluescarf:

I want both. More than happy with 3 points against a team like Watford away. But against a team like Rotherham i want both.
Only thing that will show we are serious contenders and looking to be better. But its a good point  Do we set up for a clean sheet again, or do we go for the win?

Defo go for the win without a doubt and against Rotherham we should be looking and achieving both but just saying if it comes down to us struggling to get going i would take the scrappy win  :ayatollah:

if set up for clean sheet surely that gives better chance to win game especially when at home against rotherham? if go for win will we come unstuck defensively? think prefer cleen sheet scenario

I agree clean sheets are the key, we can almost always nick a goal or two, it's a bit boring but that is the formula for promotion....

Has to be a minimum of 6 points, 7 would be reasonable.

I think we will take 4

Surely promotion ambitions don't match with going defensive against a team like Rotherham!? :shifty: What the hell should we do in Premier league again if we go about it like that? If all we are about is hoofing and puffing, we should just the same stay in the Championship..

Id rather have the tools in the ball sack to do both. Its getting embarrassing again, as it was in the premier league.
If we can't set up to attack against a team like Rotherham at home, we have nothing to do with promotion. Simple as that!
The pundits in my country are laughing when they read the team sheet ffs.. Id rather watch football, wether its in Premier or Champs

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade prepares for a key run of fixtures against clubs he knows well

They are the three sides Russell Slade is perhaps most familiar with in the Championship and they now stand between the Cardiff City boss and the play-off places.

Whilst we are all looking forward to the run up to Christmas Day, Bluebirds supporters perhaps face the advent countdown with a lot more excitement than most.

A long-cherished win on the road at Watford last time out took Slade and his men to within two points of the top six places and now Rotherham and Brentford, promoted from League One last term, and Bournemouth, up themselves from the third tier just the season before, are next up for Cardiff.

Those three encounters, against arguably the division’s least glamorous clubs, could be a turning point for the Bluebirds in a season that looks finally to be getting back on track under their new manager.

Cardiff may have been favourites to bounce straight to the Premier League before a ball was kicked, but on the pitch this season things haven't gone exactly to plan. Indeed, under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it proved a deeply disappointing and frustrating start to life back in the second-tier.

Following a caretaker period under Cardiff favourites Scott Young and Danny Gabbidon, Slade arrived from Leyton Orient in early October seemingly with plenty to prove.
The new man has certainly settled the ship. At home under their new boss the Bluebirds have recorded perfect statistics, with four wins out of four, and whilst the quality of the performances might have left something to be desired, the 12 points gained in the process have been most welcome.

It's a hopeful 9 points from me, we've got the players the team is starting to gel the fans are beginning to trust and believe in Russell Slade and even Steve Tucker from the echo is on side with the prospect of better days. I'm so glad that the posts recently have been so upbeat. C'mon City we need to keep calm and confident, ride our luck and who knows what may happen :bluescarf:

Lack of performance, not form. Form has been very good under Slade. Two(?)league losses?
