Cardiff City goal hero Adam Le Fondre...'It's a joy' to play up with Kenwyne Jones as Bluebirds take aim for Prem return
Adam Le Fondre took all the plaudits after ending his goal drought as the Bluebirds ended their away win drought but the goalscorer was quick to praise his strike partner.
Cardiff City match-winner Adam Le Fondre believes new strike partner Kenwyne Jones can strike fear into the Championship and help the Bluebirds fly right up the table.
Le Fondre struck the only goal of the game at Watford as Russell Slade’s men ended their away day hoodoo and moved to within touching distance of the play-off spots.
It was only City’s second League win on their travels in 26 matches and their first outside the Welsh capital this season.
And Le Fondre, previously paired with Federico Macheda up front, believes his new little and large partnership with Jones worked a treat at Vicarage Road and offers real hope moving forward.
Jones returned from a personal tragedy in the Caribbean to be chosen ahead of Macheda, who was dropped by Slade in a bid to change the Bluebirds’ away fortunes.
“I won’t score an easier goal than that. It’s a joy to play with Kenwyne,” said Le Fondre, after tapping home from Jones’ header.
“Kenwyne scarcely lost a challenge in the air and he’s superior to most forwards in the Championship. He is a player to be feared, wins just about every challenge and I can pretty much do what I want next to him.”
Le Fondre continued: “The simple goals are the best ones for me and maybe I got a bit of the luck which seemed to have deserted me.
“I have worked hard for the team, maybe harder than I have worked in my career, and I hope I will reap the rewards.
“It’s been disappointing getting chances and not taking them, but this is hopefully the start.
“I’m buzzing for the team. It’s been frustrating away, but we have the win we wanted.
“Every player is buying into what the manager is asking from us. We are sticking to a game plan because we are good at playing that way. “On a personal note it’s been great because the manager has given me the chance to play. I have done everything possible to make the most of that chance.”
The Bluebirds next face struggling Rotherham at home but will be without the injured Anthony Pilkington.
Bluebirds legend Nathan Blake, writing in his Echo column, believes Jones must also be chosen by Slade up front for the home matches.

For me, Jones is one of the first names on the team sheet. Not only because he's a handful for defenders, but he's also good for defending set pieces. There's been plenty of times he's cleared the ball to the opposition's half with a header.
I also disagree with the two comments above, Jones has worked a lot harder this season - although I suppose he couldn't really get any lazier after last season![]()
Jones and Le Fondre will be a good partnership, if played together regularly![]()

I agree and some need to realise he isn't going to bomb around Campbell style! Does what he does well!

That's exactly what I think. He won virtually everything yesterday and a great defensive figure defo think he should start Saturday

Just one of those lazy posts by someone who finds it easier to adopt one of the popular clichés about players rather than actually analyse what they do and how they contribute; Jones - lazy, Turner - hoofball, Whits - too laid back. There may be some truth in all of those opinions but none tell the full story or reflect the true contributions of the players. Still, everyone is entitled to an opinion.
My worry is that our manager has taken so long to assess the relative merits of Jones and Macheda. I fear that that he may not have done so yet. I await his next selection, at home, with interest, but with limited faith.
