' VOTE MOTM v Watford (a) '

Sat Nov 29, 2014 5:00 pm

This is a huge win! First away win of the season, 8th in the league and just two points off the play-offs!

But who was your man of the match?

Don't forget, the player from each match with the most MOTM votes will go into a Player of the Month poll. The winner will be who gets the most POTM votes, and this forum will be presenting an award to the winner :ayatollah:

Didn't see it so can't vote.
I hope people don't vote if they've only listened or read the reports. Only fair that you've seen the game to give an honest vote IMO.

Between Le Fondre, Jones and Brayford for me. Gave it to Le Fondre because the lad ran himself to a standstill.

Watford v Cardiff City: How the Bluebirds rated in their Championship win at Vicarage Road

Russell Slade led Cardiff City to within two points of the play-off places after victory over Watford.

Their gutsy team performance put an end to a run of form on the road that hadn't seen them win since April.

But just who were the star performers for the Bluebirds at Vicarage Road?

Steve Tucker was at Vicarage Road to cast his eye over the best and the worst performances and gives his verdict below.

DAVID MARSHALL: The shot-stopper denied Watford on numerous occasions with some brilliant saves. If Marshall lit up the Premier League last season, he isn’t doing too badly in the Championship this time around. 8

MATTHEW CONNOLLY: Before he was forced off with injury, the Bluebirds ‘Mr Dependable’ put in a great defensive shift. He seemed to be everywhere at times and his sliding tackle on Vydra in the first half was immense. 8

SEAN MORRISON: Like a very good train service, the centre-half is starting to prove himself very reliable. There’s no flash or frills with Morrison, but he barely put a foot wrong here. 8

BEN TURNER: Like the man he is forging such a good partnership with, Sean Morrison, Turner lacks finesse, but makes up for it with sheer hard work and determination. Very good here. 8

JOHN BRAYFORD: (man of the match) They called him the best full-back in the Championship once and many more games like this and they will rightly be calling the ‘iceman’ that again. Sublime. 8

CRAIG NOONE: The flashes of skill and verve were there. He flitted in and out of the game slightly, but had a few nice runs and might have scored with a better second-half finish. 7

ARON GUNNARSSON: The Icelander was surely made for afternoons like this, a football war, with midfield one of the main theatres of conflict. Steely and determined. 7

PETER WHITTINGHAM: Some of the nice touches we have come to expect, but there was a bit of bite to the midfielder too. Had to graft for his side, and he did. 7

ANTHONY PILKINGTON: The wideman seems to be growing in stature. Was busy here and the quality of his delivery was good. His cross led to the Cardiff goal, but succumbed to injury. 8

ADAM LE FONDRE: Full of running and read the game well, none more so than when he was on hand to tap the ball home for the Bluebirds goal. Looks set to link up with Jones well. 8

KENWYNE JONES: Back in the side and he really made his presence felt. Held the ball up well and it was his mastery in the air that led to Le Fondre being able to score the Cardiff winner. 7
