A forum for all things Cardiff City

It is a results business and judging by what you see below I think it is safe to say that Russell Slade has steadied the ship after a poor start under Ole and is currently getting a better return of points than Ole or Young/Gabbs.
I am one of the first to criticise performances because the truth is they have not been good at any stage of the season, though I didn't see the Forest game, I just hope that Slade can now get results on the road and really put us in the mix come Christmas/January time.

I 100% agree its about results at the end of the day
Carl, Malky got the results in the Championship and did what was asked of him.
So far Slade at home has got the results and its 4 from 4, We cant moan at all
I have to say this Blackpool away is Slades, Tan stated Slade was now the advisor(as could not say manage/legal reasons), travelled on coach/plane with his coaches and players and was putting his full input in to the game. The 2 previous games were not Slades, he was just watching City.
Slade now has to do the business away .
I will be honest, I am worried by the way Slades team plays, but if we keep winning, then results are what matters most

Results over a longer period is needed, huge red flags waving for me under slade.

A win is a win.
Actually, if we carry on playing this kind of deadpan brand of football but grind out results, the stadium will still start to fill again. The fans who are there now will be there through thick and thin in fairness. The ones who walked away when it wasn't win win win will come back as soon as success is the norm.
Just my opinion but I don't think I'm far from the mark. Look at West Ham over the past few seasons. They've been calling for Sam's head on a plate, but as soon as they start winning, it all goes nicey nicey.
Winning is a great habit, whichever way you do it.

January is a huge month of right transfers if we want to challenge. We are miles away

Can't agree that numbers will go up just because we get results. Surely nobody goes to games to watch crap and be bored to tears. Most of last nights game played out like the first half against Leeds, boring as hell.
I kept expecting the game to lapse into slow motion and then to hear that haunting music from Mike Bassett when England played out a shit draw in the World Cup.

Our work rate is much better now than under ole but that's about it. We still can't keep clean sheets at one end and don't create at the other. For me if we had played Norwich and Boro under slade we still would lose. Our away form is abysmal and I can't see it improving any time soon.
The January window will be crucial but I suspect we will lose a lot more quality than we will gain. Then again, our so called quality hasn't performed this season so it's probably more important to get the team balance right rather than bang on about how good individual players like guerra and daehli are when they haven't showed it this season.
Overall, we are a complete mess but our home results are papering over the large cracks.

The big question is Luke, who will pay our players their high wages?

I think we are a sinking ship and totally agree with Carpe.
Ole's results were better than Slade's. Ole only lost games to teams in the top ten of the table. Slade, he's beaten average teams at home and lost to poor teams away.
His squad selection baffles me... particulary Bolton.
I'm not saying Ole was the right man for the job but Slade is certainly no improvement!

I agree it is about results and I think there are some underlining statistics which show there has been a BIG change under RS compared to OGS.
If you look at overall possession under OGS we averaged 48.85% in his 7 games, under RS that figure has dropped to 46.17% but the big difference comes when you compare how many attempts at goal both ourselves and opponents are averaging.
Under OGS we averaged 10.14 attempts at goal in his 7 games, under RS that has increased to 13.28. In respect of our opponents attempts under OGS that figure averaged 16.14 in his 7 games, under RS that figure is just 12.
So despite less overall possession we are creating more chances for ourselves and are reducing the number of attempts our opponents are having. In my opinion this clearly shows we are a more effective team under RS.
Last night was a drab game, on a drab day played in a drab atmosphere but we won, I'm not sure we would have under OGS.
We have the best home record in the Championship and we ALL know the challenge facing RS and thats sort out our away form. Do that and we may have a surprising end to the season.

May be drab football but at end of day malky got us promoted by boring bland football! if Slade can do that I would be happy!

The decent players like fabio, daehli won't struggle, I doubt Guerra will either and we will replace them with work horses from the lower leagues.

From what i gather neither of them are on high wages. Neither is Eikrem, Burgstaller or many of the others linked with a move.

Results are everything to most fickle fans. Some wouldn't appreciate a purist game of cat and mouse if it ended 0-0. They want a win every time. If Cardiff are seen in the top 6 and challenging (not impossible with a tight top half) support numbers will rise.
I totally agree about last night. Unimaginative downbeat play rescued by and own goal, a penalty and a red card. But we won!!

I agree with this. If slade played daehli guerra and ravel in the first 11 though we would be the best side in this league imo. Not enough quality in his side at the moment to get us promoted

Not sure this would help us win the ball, keep it and stop conceding goals.

I didn't think any of the Ole signings are on "Malky Money" but I may be wrong

So le fondre and Pilkington do all of the above do they?

Very positive, nice one

it can be hard to remain so after a game like that, as everyone is saying a win is a win, and it was boring but quite comfortable......

Come May 2015, it will be all about the results, no matter what any of us say

Where did I say they did? Clearly all the factors I mentioned were things we are struggling with now and I can't see how they get resolved by playing the 3 you mentioned.
