ITV preparing bid to win Premier League highlights contract

ITV is set to launch a raid on Match of the Day’s rights to top flight highlights as broadcasters gear up for the looming Premier League auction despite a recent intervention from the media regulator.

Andy Townsend and Adrian Chiles giving us the weekends action .... Oh God!

Unless they dedicate more time to the show and show improved highlights....

Thoughts?

It's a no from me purely because there will be adverts every 5 minutes!!

On the plus side this might mean better highlights for championship games :D

After massively flopping for that one season, you would think they would learn to leave well alone. The highlights would have to be reduced to fit the adverts in, unless they make the programme half an hour longer to compensate? Still, Adrian Childs and Andy Townsend on there will drastically reduce the viewing figures, I suppose it will be Matt Smith, Gordon Strachan or Gareth Southgate as alternatives? I always record anything I have to watch on ITV so I can fast forward the adverts and save half hour of my life!

ITV have always been the worst at covering football in comparison to Sky and BBC, really hope they don't get it

What match did ITV interrupt to show adverts and missed a goal?

They missed one of Englands goals at the 2010 World Cup, but their worst one was when they showed an FA Cup replay between Liverpool and Everton a few years ago. The winning goal and only goal came in the 118th minute or thereabouts but
ITV were on a commercial break.

I remember their highlights show the last time they had the rights - The Premiership, fronted by Des Lynam.

Their sports coverage is dire.
