Newly appointed Wigan boss Malky Mackay says door is open to any players with a problem
MALKY MACKAY says his door will be open for any Wigan player who has a problem with him being their new boss.

The Latics yesterday unveiled the controversial manager as the replacement for Uwe Rosler who was sacked last week.
Mackay is still under investigation by the FA over a series of "sexist, racist and homophobic" text messages he is alleged to exchanged with former assistant Ian Moody during his time at Cardiff.
The Scot was sacked by the Welsh club 11 months ago with the Bluebirds struggling in the Premier League.
But just when he was closing in on taking over at Crystal Palace in the summer, the details of the alleged messages emerged.
Wigan have taken a risk in appointing Mackay as it has caused a stir around the club with local MP Lisa Nandy among those criticising the appointment.
“In terms of my style as a manager it is hands on in terms of developing relationships and enabling my players to knock on my door and talk to me”
Mackay may also be a controversial choice among the Latics' staff, especially the black players on their books.
But the former Cardiff and Watford manager said: "I have been in dressing rooms with players as a coach, manager and player for over 20 years - multi-cultural and multi-faith and got on well with a diverse group of people.
"In terms of my style as a manager it is hands on in terms of developing relationships and enabling my players to knock on my door and talk to me.
"That has happened as Watford and Cardiff manager and I want that to continue.
"When I meet the boys for the first time the way they see me they will see that. Should anyone want to speak to me, as it was at Watford and Cardiff, they can.
"They need to focus on the next game but once they get to know me and they'll get to know me quickly they'll realise I'm close to them and I'm very approachable."
Mackay insists he is not overly concerned at having a disciplinary case hanging over him and claims his presence will not put off players joining the club in January.
He could not go into details of the ongoing FA investigation but is currently taking part in an education programme.
The new Wigan boss - who takes charge of his first game on Saturday against Middlesbrough - believes that will make him a better person.
He said: "I've spoken to a fair number of stakeholders in football and the wider community and I'm involved in an education programme.

Allan, in my heart I honestly dont believe Malky is racists, I really hope not and his texts were tongue in cheek at worse.
I try not to think about him like that, i only talk about what he achieved on the pitch.

We have to be careful when describing what Malky said as "tongue in cheek" because whilst that may be true the longer people continue to make such comments the longer it will take to make racism completely unacceptable in normal society. It cannot be condoned/excused in any way.
What is debatable is whether he now deserves a second chance after less than a year away from a multi million pound salary and before the result of the ongoing FA enquiry.
My view is that until the enquiry comes to a conclusion (and he serves whatever punishment is decided if he's found guilty) then he shouldn't be working in football but I suppose the contrary view is "innocent until proven guilty"

I thought the enquiry was over and they said that no charges will be laid! except that the had to do a re-education course.

In his interviews yesterday Malky made reference to the fact that he is continuing to assist the enquiry by being "open and transparent" and also Dave Whelan referred to the fact that Wigan are covered should there be any adverse finding by the enquiry.
I know no more than that !

If they know whats good for them they wont say anything to him, we all know how he loved to freeze out players for no reason like Brayford, Noone, Conway etc

Couldn't give a toss what malky says or does

Is this a Wigan bored?
Malky had the best chance to make this club a decent force it'll probably ever have and he over paid for light weight players and completely ballsed it up and yet many on here would suck him off, even after the racist homophobic texts, it's no wonder no one takes this club seriously.

its no defence to say it was just racist comments and / or banter. mackay himself called for zero tolerance while making these texts.
as for his latest media guff, i suspect the wigan fans are buying it. he gives the impression that he's a modern, forwards thinking manager but i don't buy into that.

Totally agree, dressing room banter and blokes being blokes! A lot of people can't see this, it happens every single day some will say it's bullying some call it racist! I disagree, 95% is just meaningless humour!
