Hotels in Cardiff.

Wed Nov 19, 2014 9:06 pm

Have been looking at hotels for February and want to book a double room for 2, me and the old boy as need him near me because of his condition. Want to book this week so hoping to get a cheap deal if possible but if not then no problem. Any recommendations and no gay hotels please, thanks

Depends on budget but go for Novotel in city centre or premier inn. Book early and cheap deal. If money is ok Marriott or park hotel.

The Maldron, just by Cardiff Central station. Decent price, & good food & bar area, right in the centre of town.

£130 return for two on the train :o

That can't be right. Shall pop into the ticket booth and inquire in person at the weekend.

Have booked but can't release details on where we're staying as fire alarms and chaos will assume. We want a nice time and watch the Albion win :ayatollah:

Sounds about right for two paying adult on the day. See if you can get advanced bookings, that could save you a bit.

Well that's it Rick, we used to book well in advance and save ourselves fortunes but the prices I've been quoted for February is a joke, they are charging the same prices as if we turned up on the day and paid. I've looked via both routes, along the coast and via Paddington but both are the same. I'll pay what ever they ask but will have to do some shopping around just in case I can save a few pennies

No offence, just quoting an old TV advert from the 70's,,,,no problem unless you had a second holiday home in West Wales.

Can't think why you can't get cheaper train tickets,,,don't we play on a Tuesday night?

Tuesday and nearly three months away. Virgin trains do great deals if you book well in advance. Like I said, I'll inquire and if I'm not successful then I'll have to cough up the asking price :sad7:

If you are looking for Feb then it is probably just the case the advance tickets haven't been put on sale yet. They are usually on sale between 9 and 12 weeks before the date, so give it a week or two then have another look.

get the train to London...then the National Express bus from Victoria to Cardiff city centre.........that will work out very cheap if booked in advance

Re: Hotels in Cardiff.

I use www.thetrainline.com - as others have said their cheapest tickets are out 10-12 weeks before the date you want to travel.

Re: Hotels in Cardiff.

Thu Nov 20, 2014 4:42 pm

I would leave it a few days and try again then. The week before works out as £72 for 2 (booking singles) so probably, as has been mentioned, the advance fares are not yet out for the dates you want.

Avoid them cos they charge a booking fee. I generally use the FGW site, no booking fee and I collect points on my nectar card :).

Try pricing the trains again. There are a few cheaper options on some trains now booking singles.

If he's quoting £130 for two people, then he's clearly trying to book advance tickets! ;)

The £130 is probably the pay on the day price that was quoted him, I very much doubt you could get an advanced train price three months in advance,,,I should know, I work on the trains. I Don't see anything funny in that???

Have been thinking about coach as my dad loves coach travel or train as he loves to sit and look at the senary as we go so haven't ruled that out. I'm open to all possibility's and the cheaper the better.

I have look at their site and that was the quote I was quoted but like the above said, I'll will wait and bide my time and see if the prices come down, fingers crossed they do

Oh my, what a month makes in prices.

Was looking at £130 and now have two options. One is for £69 return and the other is for £70.

The £69 return for two stops at 19 stations and takes 5hr and 20 mins whereas the £70 return for two takes 4 hours and one change at farnham.

£70 is a bargain price for two.

That's a bit rued Nukes. Only coming to Cardiff as we'll not be in the Championship again for years to come and it's a few days out for the old boy plus your new ground. We're arriving at 1pm (other people in tow) so looking for a good reasruant so any ideas and where to eat before and after the match, curry would be nice :bluescarf:
