Chris Barker

Playing in the FA cup replay for Aldershot against Portsmouth tonight on BT. Always thought he was a solid, reliable left back for us, just been subbed 38 mins, injured.

I think opinion on Barker was pretty much divided which seems to be the same for most of our players especially the current crop. eg. Daheli, Jones, Whittingam, Turner and Macheda .But in Barker's case, I certainly don't think he came anywhere near justifying the £5000, 000 fee Lenny reportedly forked out for him.

He repaid us by being part of the team winning the playoff final against QPR to take us to the Championship. Barker was a very solid, dependable left back who never let us down, although his lack of pace limited him from progressing any higher than League 1 level. Lennie apparently paid £500,000 for him with an extra £100,000 on top when we got promoted, which was way too much imo. But that wasn't Barker's fault, he was a good honest pro for us and never let us down. We could do with more players of Barker's attitude and commitment in our current squad.

I remember speaking to barker after a game and asked him why didnt he take my advice while i was screaming from the bobbank to get forward :laughing6: he said he was instructed to not go over the halfway line when on the attack as tactics, makes you think what really goes in football detail wise. Although i liked barker as a player one of the very few leftbacks i rated

Decent solid left back who have his all just lacked gas! I liked him but give me Damon Searle any day of the week!

Was it barker who went out on loan and came back super fit and improved ten fold?
He was very solid, one of lennies better signing.

You're spot on here. He showed a great attitude in going out on loan and coming back to us looking fitter than ever and breaking back into the team. If only some of our current players had the same attitude as Barker instead of throwing their toys out of the pram.
