South Wales Police praise Welsh football fans in Belgium

South Wales and Belgium Police have praised Welsh football fans for their conduct at the Belgium-v-Wales match over the weekend.

South Wales Police said only five arrests were made in a crowd of around 3,500 travelling fans and these arrests were for “low level” offences.

Chief Superintendent Josh Jones said: “We would like to thank the Welsh supporters for the way they conducted themselves in Belgium on the weekend. The patience and humour demonstrated by Welsh supporters won praise from our Belgian Police colleagues and was a great example of good sportsmanship amongst fans”.

“The Welsh fans projected a very positive image and passion for the game and this was typified by the good natured gatherings in bars around Brussels for those 1,000 fans who didn’t have a ticket for the match”.

Chief Superintendent Jones added: “This behaviour continues to enhance the reputation of Welsh fans as being passionate, noisy but good humoured followers of their national football team”.

In sort he enjoyed a jolly at taxpayers expense

Far too much emphasis on a few clowns from down the road. They're not proper fans. The real supporters were there for the football and did us all proud. Well done Wales!

Top weekend and Id go along with what's been said in this thread, personally never seen any problems, just a lot of fans enjoying themselves, some might have had a bit too much to drink but they wasn't causing any harm.

The togetherness following Wales is a lot stronger than it is following the City at the moment, loved it !

Was a great trip,drunk with fan's from all over .had plenty of banter but no hint of trouble,and yes,I was very drunk,love the togetherness following wales nowadays,going to be great in France,and Israel Cyprus and Bosnia before
