Reading Fan Chat – Cardiff v Reading

Mon Nov 17, 2014 7:15 pm

As always, friendly greetings from daib0.... it's been a while since I've been on - principally because of the Premier days mean we didn't co-incide much, but at least we had the inter-forums games ...

So onto our game together this coming Friday night – and I wondered if I could have a few views ONCE AGAIN (!) from yourselves to inform the members on Reading’s “Royals Rendezvous” . Guaranteed no ‘wind ups’ on my forum! Whilst I’d be grateful for anyone saying anything they like thinking ahead to the game, perhaps here I’d just like to point you all towards a few ideas. These are some specific questions I’m sounding out from Cardiff fans on other sites – well, principally YOU guys! These will really help us.

Just a few basic easy things – here goes:

A] ** As we speak Cardiff are just a couple of points better off than the Royals. As we also found out last season, being considered one of the bigger boys doesn’t necessarily make the path any easier. So I wondered – so how do you think your season will go from now on, using both your head and your heart?

B] ** How is your squad clicking together – please take us through a few; any who should Reading particularly fear (OK, I know you’re tempted but don’t just say ‘everyone’!!), and any really promising youngsters now bursting through?

C] ** How strong do you see the general level of the Championship this season, and who do you see as the fierce competitors for promotion? Any surprise teams to you?

D] ** Our own confidence in Reading is a bit wobbly at the moment; indeed this may be our worst finish in over a decade if things don’t change. Are you surprised at our lack of bite so far? And leading on from that, how do you rate Nigel Adkins?

E] ** So to the Friday game? How do you see the match going? By all means leave a prediction here even if you’ve given it or will give it in another thread!

Any snippet quoted will be fully credited with your member user name + forum mention. Ahh … and your forum will be given as the fan forum recommended site on our Match Presentation/Thread for our fans to look in at …

Cheers,

daib0, and the guys & gals on the Reading ‘Royals Rendezvous’ forum

Head says mid table. Heart says mid table. Simple really we don't deserve anything higher.

B] ** How is your squad clicking together – please take us through a few; any who should Reading particularly fear (OK, I know you’re tempted but don’t just say ‘everyone’!!), and any really promising youngsters now bursting through?

Most of us have given up trying to work out our squad. Most believe our best players are mercenaries and our our upcoming youngsters stand no chance of getting in.

C] ** How strong do you see the general level of the Championship this season, and who do you see as the fierce competitors for promotion? Any surprise teams to you?

On the whole I feel the Championship has closed the gap on the Premier. I think most premier clubs would struggle in the Championship.

D] ** Our own confidence in Reading is a bit wobbly at the moment; indeed this may be our worst finish in over a decade if things don’t change. Are you surprised at our lack of bite so far? And leading on from that, how do you rate Nigel Adkins?

You guys have gone right off the boil. Don't know whats gone wrong but your a club that could do a Southampton, go down a bit to bounce back very strongly. Adkins is a guy that will do well at a big club. Don't think your big enough for him to flourish.

E] ** So to the Friday game? How do you see the match going? By all means leave a prediction here even if you’ve given it or will give it in another thread!

Got a feeling this could be a dull game with you guys killing it. 0-0.

Straight forward 10th place, I wouldn't be disappointed with that ether.

B] ** How is your squad clicking together – please take us through a few; any who should Reading particularly fear (OK, I know you’re tempted but don’t just say ‘everyone’!!), and any really promising youngsters now bursting through?

Clicking together? There is a bit of togetherness between the squad now. At home we have clicked really well considering the amount of time Slade has had in and the games he faced. When it comes to away games well not going to much more. You should fear in some sense Le Fondre as his effort level is unbelievable and he forces a lot of errors by his high press chasing. Whittingham you always have to be aware of. Manga is quality at the back, a fans favourite and the player of the season by a country mile who causes danger on the flank is Fabio. Not really many, Ralls could be considered one but not one of our own.

Head - Top 6
Heart - Champions by Christmas

B] ** How is your squad clicking together – please take us through a few; any who should Reading particularly fear (OK, I know you’re tempted but don’t just say ‘everyone’!!), and any really promising youngsters now bursting through?

Le Fondre (old club curse)
Most of our best players don't start so you should be ok

C] ** How strong do you see the general level of the Championship this season, and who do you see as the fierce competitors for promotion? Any surprise teams to you?

I think the gap has closed on the premier league.

I thought you would be challenging for play offs

My heart and head are both saying with the improvement we've seen (IF that improvement continues) so far we could end up in the playoffs this season. Of course my heart is hoping for us to be top of the league by Christmas... it's never anything else.

B] ** How is your squad clicking together – please take us through a few; any who should Reading particularly fear (OK, I know you’re tempted but don’t just say ‘everyone’!!), and any really promising youngsters now bursting through?

If we played Daehli I would say to watch out for him. Kenwyne is having a great season so far professionally though personal problems in the recent past may set him back a little (though he still managed to score in his last game.
Apart from that same old same old. We're not playing our "new" players much (Guerra, Dikgachoi, Eikrem) for whatever reason.

C] ** How strong do you see the general level of the Championship this season, and who do you see as the fierce competitors for promotion? Any surprise teams to you?

Wolves have had a GREAT season from the start, forest WERE worrying but have cooled off significantly since we gave them their first loss of the season. As for leaders at the moment, as we know with the championship it'll go down to the wire. It's anybody's season, though Blackpool look pretty stuffed...

D] ** Our own confidence in Reading is a bit wobbly at the moment; indeed this may be our worst finish in over a decade if things don’t change. Are you surprised at our lack of bite so far? And leading on from that, how do you rate Nigel Adkins?

Not heard much of nigel, or reading this season, in all honesty. As mentioned, it's anybody's league this year and as long as you get your heads together you could get to the playoffs. It's all about work rate this year, not just if you have a great team on paper

E] ** So to the Friday game? How do you see the match going? By all means leave a prediction here even if you’ve given it or will give it in another thread!

I'm hoping, with the forward movement we've seen so far, that we can manage to edge this one and I've predicted 2-0 to Cardiff... you may disagree though ;)

Cardiff City FC v Reading FC - Team news

Reading

Garath McCleary could feature for the first time this season for Reading.

Royals winger is in the squad having finally recovered from back surgery in the summer to mend a fractured vertebra.

Full-back Shaun Cummings is also in the squad for the first time since injuring his knee in the Capital One Cup tie at Scunthorpe in August.

Defender Anton Ferdinand misses out with a calf injury, while skipper Jem Karacan continues to remained sidelined following surgery to fix a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Hope Akpan is facing three months out after dislocating his shoulder while on international duty for Nigeria.

Young attacker Craig Tanner is also out with a knee problem.

Cardiff City

Cardiff boss Russell Slade has a full squad to choose from.

The Bluebirds are injury free and Slade is not expected to make too many changes from the side that drew 0-0 at Birmingham before the international break.

Fabio is likely to come in at left-back, however, to replace Matthew Connolly.

Left winger Anthony Pilkington did return from his stint with the Republic of Ireland with a slight calf strain, but it not thought to be serious enough to see him miss out.

Striker Kenwyne Jones and centre-back Bruno Manga, who have been away on international duty for Trinidad & Tobago and Gabon respectively, are expected to be on the bench.

That means there will be starts for former Royals pair Adam Le Fondre and Sean Morrison.
