Malky Mackay tipped as frontrunner for Wigan Athletic job

Malky 1/7 Favourite

BUT viewtopic.php?f=2&t=150390

Former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has been tipped as the frontrunner to land the vacant Wigan Athletic job.

The Scot is said to be Latics chairman Dave Whelan's first choice to succeed Uwe Rosler, who was sacked on Thursday evening.

Although Whelan gave Rosler his backing last weekend, the businessman was already compiling a list of potential replacements.

Mackay has been out of work since parting company with Cardiff in December last year, but has come close to a return to management with Norwich City and Crystal Palace.

Former Wigan boss Paul Jewell has also been linked with the managerial vacancy at the DW Stadium.

Mason, exactly what I put out the other day.

I would like to see how Malky would do nowadays :thumbright: Everyone deserves a 2nd chance in life :thumbright:

There is a chance he could get it as Malky has been the clubs guest on their last couple of home games.

A quick review of this board does show Malkie is reported as being favourite for every managerial vacancy that arises!

Until it is confirmed officially that he does not face any charges or sanctions is any club going to take the chance?

It has also been 'reported' that Malky will escape any sanctions form the FA after they "looked after one of their own" not so long ago! ;)

To 'punish' Malky for allegedly committing a similar 'offence' has been conceded as "nigh on impossible"

I still don't like what he did or the way he 'conned' Cardiff City supporters in his final weeks/months, but good luck to the guy IMHO

If someone wants him and he can motivate a squad to 'play' for him, then great for him and his football management rehabilitation. I'm just personally glad it isn't at Cardiff City FC

Cardiff City hero or Cardiff City let down?? An individual choice, I guess, but I won't be overly welcoming him at the CCS with his new team, if/when that occurs; particularly if his appearance incites another "Love Malky/Hate Tan" protest!

That isn't being pro-Tan, but it simply wouldn't be right given all that came to light after Malky's departure!

He certainly will be, Trooblue will be singing Dont Sack Mackay the day we play them if Malky is their manager.

Luke, Some one is going to give him a chance, Dave Jones was given one by us, when no one would touch him.
I reckon Wigan could be the club to do it.

DAILY MIRROR

Friday 14th Nov 2014

Wigan set to appoint controversial Malky Mackay as manager to replace sacked Uwe Rosler

Malky Mackay is odds-on favourite for a controversial return to football with Wigan.

The former Cardiff boss stunned football after it emerged back in August that he and a colleague sent alleged sexist and racists texts to each other during his time at the south Wales club.

It was believed at the time that Mackay would struggle to get back into the game after he was vilified along with the League Managers’ Association who backed him.

But Mackay is understood to have been in the thinking of Wigan chairman Dave Whelan even before the 77-year-old DW supremo sacked Uwe Rosler on Thursday.

The FA have yet to take any action against either Mackay or Iain Moody, the head of recruitment who worked him at the time of the controversial texts.

Mackay, who masterminded Cardiff’s Championship title win two seasons ago, apologised for sending messages that were “disrespectful of other cultures”.

As far as I'm concerned he took us supporters for a ride, treated us as mugs. I hope he gets the job then perhaps I will be able to read a thread on this forum without his name continually cropping up. About time we moved on from him and looked towards the future and a time when hopefully we get our club back.

I think Fergie was always supportive of Malky and will see the 'bigger' picture! ;)

If Mr Whelan is prepared to "take a punt" on Malky, then good for him, as I believe that Malky can do a job for them!

However, I stand by my statement above that as much as Malky led us to promotion, he ultimately 'conned' Cardiff City supporters and he will get a luke warm welcome (at best) from me whenever/if he comes back to the CCS

I hope he gets the job, as it will answer the question as to whether he is an exceptional manager or not. If he fails then that will be that. Personally I think he is a massive gamble now, as when an ethnic minority member of a team he manages has a problem with a decision he has made, they will quickly run and say it is racially motivated. A massive and unavoidable gamble to take for any club IMHO

I agree if Malky gets the job, it will be interesting to see how Emmerson Boyce, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Leon Barnett react. I think Barnett would be fine having previously worked with Malky when he came on loan to us. I'm sure Barnett would have given his thoughts on Malky before Dave Whelen invited Malky to games.

I have always said that Tan has the money and contacts to manipulate people. I will always stick up for Malky until it's proven he has been involved with any wrong doing. At the moment, Tan is spending hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions scraping the barrel trying to nail Malky and we have still yet to hear anything. We've already heard about an agent capitalising on Tan's desperation by conning him out of 50k to provide duff information.

Malky was in a high pressure job working for a crackpot of an owner who was jealous of his popularity with the City fans (at the time). Everyone knows about Tan's antics trying to unsettle Malky. 3 texts out of 80,000 documents from Malky were classed as racist and unacceptable, but they were personal texts which should have been kept private. Many of us would have probably said a lot worse about Tan if in Malky's shoes (considering Malky is innocent of course).

What I will say is Dave Whelen is a well respected owner who I believe would not touch Malky if he had any doubts. I personally feel a lot of people have been manipulated by Tan. Dave Whelen isn't one of them.

No, but do you or anyone else know what these 3 racist texts were? Apparently, one of them was calling Tan a chinky. That's unacceptable but considering numerous people say they're going to have a chinky when having a Chinese takeaway and if that's the most damning text they can find sent from Malky out of 80,000 documents, he hasn't done a whole lot wrong. No different to all the English fans calling us sheep shaggers but I don't see anyone saying those English fans should never be allowed to work again. It's completely blown out of proportion.

It's not the same though. Malky was in a position of authority and responsibility, a role model for the club and his profession. The texts were sent as part of his job.
