Food banks

Thu Nov 13, 2014 1:37 pm

What a swizz those food banks turned out to be. I deposited a packet of chocolate buscuits and a tin of oxtail soup in the one by me last week and when I went in today to get them out they said they had gone.

Food banks should be there for the needy not for the ones who can't manage their own finances correctly

Another great post from you. Funny how the government haven't any data on who uses these food banks. Don't forget these are free just like houses, NHS, Schools, A&E etc. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to work it out.

I'd ban them myself.

Food banks my arse...........nobody is starving in the uk today.........my grandfather lived through the depression with no handouts, and spent 7 months on strike in 1926 with no money at all and never starved, these people get benefits. Most of these jokers today are sitting in a house with a huge plasma tv and a play station watching sky tv smoking fags and drinking cans of booze..........then they discover there is f@ck all in the cupboard or fridge and go down the food bank. And you can all reply as much as you like coz ive lived in the same villages and towns with people like this all my life, im not some tory from the vale of Glamorgan...........so don't waste your breath.........im just a man who has worked all his life and is sick of seeing people who have nothing wrong with them take handouts instead of do a days work.

Re: Food banks

Labour would have you think food banks are a Tory invention.

As Denzil says above, we are a nation of moaners. Sob story victims trying to blame others about the fact we can own some Ipad or other crap. We live in complete luxury.

Well said. You forgot to add these work shy benefit claimants also mange a foreign holiday whereas the tax payer could only dream of such a perk.

To those on here who are prone to making sweeping statements and baseless assumptions, why don't you volunteer your time to help out at a food bank and speak to some of the people who use them. Some of the stories I have heard are tragic and help put things very much into perspective.

Yes! There are many who receive help without being in 'desperate need but there are also those who are genuinely desperate and without charitable assistance would be just another forgotten statistic on the street.

I really hope none of you who are so quick to judge ever go through some form of challenging life event that results in you losing everything you take for granted. You may not then be so quick to criticise those that end up helping you.

Give up your own time and then feel free to give some constructive criticism to help improve the distribution to those most in need. Until then, shut your selfish noise.

Yes and if those who did not need help didn't go there, there would be more for the ones who need it. And if the lazy workshy got off their arse and got a job there would be more benefit money for pensioners, the disabled and those who have found themselves temporary out of work.
By the way I do give up my time to help others, i've worked on a number of charitable projects over the years and this Christmas I will be helping to feed the homeless in south Wales.

Sainsbury............ha ha ha. We shop in lidl, aldi and farmers markets. Try it, bags of veg for 29p makes a great stew, last you 2-3 days, maybe the food bankers should try it instead of chicken nuggets and smilie faces.

Yes we are in general a nation of moaners and negativity breeds negativity.

So let's ask ourselves who is the most negative person on this board who moans about every conceivable topic, just to get attention.

Start looking beyond your own ignorance and prejudice's Adam. You're still young enough to address your problems, so do something positive and stop feeding negativity and conflict. Try Yoga or something and chill out.

If you don't like them, then don't donate food, pretty simple really. The Cardiff based one does a great job, and, not that it really matters, but most of the people who go there are white and homeless.

Keep kidding yourself mate.

You're bitter, angry, negative and a drain on other people's happiness and optimism. You see the worst of things in yourself and reflect your own self hate on everyone else.

You'll never be truly happy until you start to appreciate the best that others have to give and offer. Everyone can find fault in others, but genuinely happy optimistic people have learnt not to drain their energy on negativity and focus on the best of others.

I pity you, but at the same time would like to believe that even you're not a lost cause yet. Open you mind and your heart to try and see the good in people before the bad.

You never know, you might start to enjoy life a little more.

A ridiculous generalistic comment, with very little genuine fact to back it up.

Some food banks are poorly run, most are not.

Some people are bell ends, most are not.

It's clear which category you fall into.

People do take the proverbial, one 29 yr old I know uses a food bank but also uses drugs, pisses it up and smokes like a trooper. Her daughter only gets fed because of her Nannie, she makes sure she eats OK.
She came out for a meal for my wife's birthday last Sat and ate a good
meal and sweet. She's only worked about 3 months in the last 5 years, it's one big piss take on her behalf. :x

bearing in mind I was a former County Councillor do you really think that I don't know about local food banks ?

Re: Food banks

It was your pathetic stint as a councillor that confirmed your status as a bellend. So I suppose a position in a local authority makes you an expert on everything.

What a piss poor come back. You delight in highlighting the ineptitude of government and councillors.

Re: Food banks

Sun Nov 16, 2014 10:54 am

What by investigating that £9.9 million pounds wa overcharged to Council house residents since the 1970s which then insured that thousands of people and families had refunds ? Or the same stint which insured that the new old peoples home was built or the same stint which sponsored 6 local football teams out of my wages ?

Keep reading the echo FFS. Lol

You were a hero to the local community Adam. They clamoured to vote you back in after your miracle stint.

And there was me thinking you were somewhat disgraced and banned from standing again.

There an ungrateful bunch that Gurnos lot.

Getting back to topic, I have worked with a Foodbank. Have you?

The biggest problem is that those who set them up, have so much care and compassion, it's difficult to turn people down. They don't judge who turns up, as they leave judgemental behaviour to people like you.

I reckon a Nazi republic would be more tolerant than you. If must be nice that so many people think like that about you.

So am I to assume you have never spent time helping a Foodbank and therefore your comments are based only on assumption rather than facts formed though direct experience.

Please go and work with a local Foodbank. Your wealth of expertise could prove invaluable to help them operate more effectively

yes I did hence my point earlier on, many people are just there because (a) they cant manage their finances properly and (b) cant cook properly.

If you have experienced working with one you will know what Im on about rather than just throw base less accusations
