' One of Russell Slades targets for January '

Mon Nov 10, 2014 7:28 pm

Ive just been told that Slade rang Steven Dawsons agent today(who is telling others).

Dawson plays for Rochdale and they are looking for £100,000 in the January window.

He is ex Barnsley when they were in the Championship.
A real hard-working midfielder which Slade feels were missing.
Slade had him at a previous club I think?

I can only say what ive been told.

Almost 30 years old league 1 player. And we are selling our best youth prospects. Madness at this club.

We need to accept this and get used to it.

This is the sort of player Slade knows - this is his level. League 1 and below.

And that is where we will end up.

Will judge him on his performances if he signs.

Hardly a thrilling thought mind.

There will be a reason why he is 30 and playing for Rochdale.

Obviously going to happen when employing a manager that's never managed above league 1. The club is a disgrace.

Has as much ambition as our manager search!

I find it refreshing we're being linked to players who aren't big names, aren't mercenaries, but will battle and give their all. Seems a leader as well if he was Leyton Orient captain. Whether he will have the quality to make the jump from Rochdale to improve us remains to be seen mind. It seems Ole has spent our budget and Tan won't give Slade any more funds, so these are the types of players we will be linked with unless Slade can move some of our big earners out.

I agree. We have the manager, we have to trust him ...... For now!
I really hope he get Matts involved & doesn't consider selling him though because he will give you skill & work rate.

I too hope he gets Mats involved. What I find strange is Slade must obviously rate Mats to say he will only sell him for a big fee, so why isn't he in the squad?

Looks like Slade is preparing Cardiff City for League One. He will not manage it this season, but if this continues he could have a good chance next season. Have just one thing to say: Madness!

Russell Slade can't win. Fans complain we can't win midfield. He target players that does that and gets criticised.

Some fans need to realise we can't compete for Champions League players when making signings.

Oh come in mate, this guy is 31 now, best days are behind him.. Pinnacle of his career was with Barnsley...

We have younger international payers who perform for countries, just need to right man to manage them... We should be able to pick up any midfielder in the champ and even loans from the prem league, That's what the parachute payments are for. We need to ship out some of oles signings first but this us not the sort of payer we should be looking at if we want to return to the prem league.

Who's asking for champions league players? Championship players at least for fuk sake. Your happy with a 30yr old league one player to take us up are you?

I dont mind lower league signings, we have had some decent ones over the years but I at least expect them to be of a decent age where they can improve.

Like I said, Ole has spent millions and nobody knows what budget Tan has given Slade. If Slade is given nothing to spend, there's very little he can do unless he can offload some of our big earners. I agree it's very hard to be positive about a 30 year old Rochdale player joining us, but I also think Slade will steer clear of the big name mercenaries and bring in players to improve our squads mental strength and character.

I agree with that. Normally if your bringing a lowr leagues player in they are still on the younger side and have a bright future. This guys has already peaked and really not what we should be looking at. We may as well bring kiss back in .

This season is turning into a stinker on and off the field!

Let's look at players like Jamie Vardy and how he's performing in the Prem after signing from Fleetwood. What about Rickie Lambert before Liverpool turned him shit?

Bags of quality in our squad, we need some low profile, battling players who get stuck into the fight rather than centre of attention prem stars who can't cut the physical presence of the Championship.

However, it makes me wonder why Adeyemi isn't used and given a chance. Did he not do this role at Birmingham when he was there?

He did play centre mid and was their player of the season...

He is actually 28 when I looked. Slade obviously knows the league well and Rochdale are having a good season this year 5th in a play off spot.
Do you remember when we played Blackpool a few games ago and they had a guy in the middle of the park can't remember his name? But he wasn't a great footballer and didn't have much class about him, but what he did have was a battling aggressive hard working game and our midfield just couldn't deal with him and to be fair he bossed our midfield, kind of like a lee catermole type player he reminded me of.
Well that is probably the type of player we are missing and maybe this guy from Rochdale is that type of player and that is why I would give a signing like this a chance and support it if it did happen....
