Have we been left with a team of Miss fits?

Sun Nov 09, 2014 10:51 pm

Ok I'm going to be brutally honest, and lets be honest, you cant improve a situation without accepting
the faults, even when picking up points, or scoring goals, players and teams have areas to work on.

To many are quick to say ''what do you mean? we won the game or he scored a goal, the bottom
line is do we have the right fit as a squad?
and if we don't what is the answer to this... or is it going to take 2-3 years to rid the garbage and the
bad apples from the group and create a team of champions.. with a hunger and a mentality for winning trophy's
(mainly on of the two on offer in the championship) for now

I sum up our attacking options as.. well... put it this way I wouldn't care if I seen volikonja and Healey up front the way they've been playing away from home just awful Le Fondre isn't doing well, Macheda is scoring ok, Maynard, Guerra and Jones aren't going to save the world.

We have talented players but footballing ability is a dangerous thing to have in a side, without the right work ethic and
the right relationship and the right mindset you can probably bank on a mid table to 7th finish at best.

We are currently in a false sense of security and I think even the manager and our board members are at the moment, we need to wake up and smell the coffee and take massive action before its too late, because quite frankly we aren't good enough, we have problems on the road we've played poor teams and we will suffer late in the season with a tough away running having not took our given points.

It's an extremely tough season that lies ahead and mark my words If we do come close to the play offs we are going to be looking back on those games with regret.

Do we need to have a serious look at ourselves and our players and consider starting over? bar 7 or 8

I wouldn't say miss fits but of various philosophies.

we still have DJ's open attacking bit of a gamble players in Marshall and Whitts

In Turner & gunner the do your job types made of the right character. I never thought Malky trusted Nooney

With Ole we just acquired fancy Dan types with questionable character.

The championship is a tough overly coached league so you need to balance the toughness with a bit of class. Malkys bit of class was Whitts & Bellers with 8 die for the cause types. I think we got lucky as when we hit the wall at the end of the season so did everyone else.

Slade needs to get the balance. Yesterday Macheda, Nooney and Pilkington were carried by the back 4, Gunner, Alf and Whitts. When Whitts is one of our grinders we are in trouble.

Good post, & you've said what I've been trying to say in other posts on this subject. Also, is RS&Co made of the "right stuff" at this level to change & improve the squad. Like always, time will tell, but looking at the current squad, & their contracts, its going to be a at least two/three years (as you mentioned) to turns things around, & that's a time span which our club simply cannot afford, financially,,IMO.

It's the people running the club that are the route of our issues not the manager or squad. I can't see us being successful under the current ownership because they don't understand us or the game.
