Heard a lot of people saying how we "Weren't bad," today but if I am honest I am hugely unimpressed by City's performance today;
almost more-so than I was after watching us at Bolton. It was flooded with the same mistakes that we made on Tuesday. We were no-where near as clinical as we need to be on the pitch, no matter where we play. I must admit, I agree with Brayford on his point regarding home advantage. There is no argument about the pitch and 'Knowing the bounce,' any more in a division full of high calibre grounds and pitches.
90% of the time, the away fans brings a better atmosphere than those at home so I really don't see much reason for such poor form away from home. There was one point in the match today where Birmingham broke forward creating an almost identical opportunity for them as Bolton had when they scored their first goal in midweek. If it was not for Gunnarsson tracking back and making a good tackle, I'm certain we would have been a goal down.
I feel that turner made a big impact today as he gave us something we haven't had in a while; somebody who isn't afraid to get the ball out of danger. One player like this really helps when our defence hasn't performed well recently. Up front though, the same issues as we've seen all too often this season - lack of an end product. Le Fondre, I think, does some of the simple passes well and always seems calm yet has struggled to settle into this Cardiff team. He missed a first half chance that, if he was given at reading, you would have put your house on it finding the back of the net. I think Slade is trying to force a partnership between him an Macheda which sadly I really can't see working. The only real improvement I saw today, in comparison to our mid-week defeat was in last-ditch defending.
The players were trying harder today to defend the ball until the last possible moment, rather than just letting the man run past them. Having said that, this may be somewhat due to the fans motivating the players today, as opposed to glaring in utter silence. For me, to have made such little improvement since Tuesday is unacceptable and I really hope Slade uses the international break to figure a way to make all of the players happy and, lets hope, include some different names in his selections.
