Gary Rowett's unbeaten start as Birmingham manager continued after a goalless draw against Cardiff.
Rowett has overseen three games since replacing Lee Clark, while Cardiff remain without an away league win.
Cardiff striker Federico Macheda and Birmingham substitute Wes Thomas both had the ball in the net but their strikes were ruled offside.
The home side finished with 10 men as Thomas saw red for an off-the-ball incident with Sean Morrison.
The result means Birmingham remain second-bottom in the table, while Cardiff stay 12th.
Cardiff should have been ahead at the break when Macheda did well to control Peter Whittingham's clever pass but his drilled shot was saved by Darren Randolph.
Macheda had the ball in the net early in the second half, the Italian benefiting from a loose ball following a block by Birmingham captain Paul Robinson, but he was clearly in an offside position.
Rowett introduced Thomas and youngster Demarai Gray from the bench and the change almost paid dividends when Gray's excellent centre was blasted in from close range by Thomas, only for the flag to go up again.
Birmingham striker Clayton Donaldson squandered a good opportunity when he was sent clear, before a heated final few few minutes saw Thomas dismissed by referee Kevin Friend for an incident which left Morrison needing treatment.

Cardiff City are still without an away win this season but worked hard to keep a clean sheet in a scrappy game at St Andrews.
Birmingham City 0-0 Cardiff City
Cardiff City didn't earn the Championship away win they craved, but left St Andrews with a clean sheet and a hard earned point.
The Bluebirds had chances and the best fell to Federico Macheda and Adam Le Fondre, but they couldn't get the goal to see off 10-man Blues.
Full back Fabio was dropped after a poor display at Bolton and Ben Turner came into the defence to replace the injured Bruno Manga and both changes seemed to shore up the defence that leaked three in midweek.
During a low key first half, Cardiff had the chances to put the game beyond the hosts with former Blues striker Macheda missing while one-on-one with keeper Darren Randolph.
Then Adam Le Fondre spurned a couple of opportunities.
The second half was an even contest with few chances but there was drama after 88 minutes when Wes Thomas was given a red card for a stunning strike on Sean Morrison.
Morrison was booked for his part and went off with a cut head soon after, while Birmingham managed to keep Cardiff out with 10 men.
The Bluebirds kept attacking until the very end but were thwarted late on as Anthony Pilkington had a chance saved.

Gary Rowett's unbeaten start as Birmingham manager continued with a spirited goalless draw against Cardiff in the Sky Bet at St Andrew's.
Former Birmingham loanee Federico Macheda stabbed home early in the second half for Cardiff, and Blues substitute Wes Thomas also had the ball in the net, but both were denied by the flag as Rowett moved to three games unbeaten since replacing Lee Clark while Cardiff await their first away league win this season.
The home side finished with 10 men as Thomas saw red for an off-the-ball incident with Sean Morrison.
Birmingham winger David Cotterill's right-footed shot was the first attempt of note but his fourth-minute effort was wide of David Marshall's far post.
Anthony Pilkington had a go at the other end but Darren Randolph got down to his right to save comfortably while Adam Le Fondre also should have done better with a shot from close range.
Randolph was tested minutes later when Macheda found space on the left and Blues captain Paul Robinson nearly deflected the ball into his own net.
The Bluebirds should have led at the break as Macheda again did well to receive Peter Whittingham's clever ball only to see his drilled shot parried by Randolph.
Macheda had the ball in the net early in the second half but only after an offside call had been made, the Italian benefiting from a loose ball following Robinson's block but only while clearly ahead of the play.
Rowett introduced Thomas and Demarai Gray from the bench in an attempt to swing things in the home side's favour.
And they had the ball in the net themselves in the 64th minute as the tide began to turn. Dangerous youngster Gray did superbly on the right to whip in a brilliant cross. Fellow substitute Thomas blasted home from close range at the far post only to see the flag up.
Gray's effort from the edge of the penalty area was well blocked by Matthew Connolly, amid appeals for handball.
Gray was again in the thick of it in the 80th minute as a shot was blocked and a volley saved by Marshall in the space of a few seconds.
Birmingham striker Clayton Donaldson wasted a brilliant opportunity when put through on the right with two minutes left, panicking and snatching at his shot to leave Marshall's clean sheet intact.
A heated final few minutes saw Thomas dismissed by referee Kevin Friend for an apparent off-the-ball incident with Morrison which left the defender needing treatment.
