I've got nothing but respect for the fallen in WW1 and WW2, especially the conscripts.

I don't like the way the poppy has been politicised though - and in the hands of Rangers FC, I'm afraid today's symbolism owes as much to politics as it does to remembrance.

As an aside, and with much less fanfare, Celtic FC foundation will make its annual donation of £10,000 to the Scottish poppy appeal.

Well done Rangers , Celtic fans & poppies just don't go together. Remember them shouting at our troops in a football ground "yar merdering barstards" (you murdering bastards).

Why especially the conscripts? Are there certain levels of dying for your country and freedom?

Why has the poppy been politicised? Rangers fans are proud of being British (as are the big majority of Scots). This is not symbolism by Rangers fans as they always are supportive of British troops.

I cannot believe someone actually believes that Remembrance and the poppy is anything other than the country coming together to honour and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives so we could live in freedom. Politics has nothing to do with it, nor should it.

Celtic only give money (if they do) to try to appease the rest of Scotland and stop even more people hating them. It is also kept quiet so not to upset their own supporters, who no doubt would prefer it spent on funding terrorism and paedophile compensation payments for their priests. Celtic fans are despicable and are rightly hated throughout Scotland.

Every war death is a tragedy and the men and women fighting in the world wars and also the more recent conflicts in the Middle East deserve huge respect for putting their bodies on the line.

Respect to them for taking the brave decision to join the military.

Conscripts didn't even get to make that choice. They were often reluctant soldiers and cannon fodder carrying out the deranged orders of half mad generals and insane politicians.

The poppy is the ultimate symbol of remembrance and a great means of raising money for injured service people. Unfortunately there is a small bigoted lobby that has attempted to hijack the 'poppy' for political purposes. Even the queen has been criticised by this bunch of poppy zealots in recent years for publicly stating that she will only wear the poppy on Remembrance Sunday.

Like others who have lost relatives in conflicts over the years I'd rather that the purity of the poppy and Remembrance Sunday was kept apolitical. People should feel free to remember and respect the fallen in whatever way they see fit. As you rightly say, politics has nothing to do with it, nor should it.

As for the Celtic fans that interrupted the minutes silence, well, imo they are scum. They would do well to remember that many sons of Eire also died in WW1. The moronic element amongst Celtics support are, however, a small minority.

Having worked in Scotland over the years, I can tell you that both Celtic and Rangers are widely hated North of the border for the hateful brand of sectarianism and politics they bring into Scottish football. No place for IRA or UVF chants at a football match. The bigotry and overblown scenes of devotion to both republicanism and loyalism by Celtic and Rangers fans respectively continue to divide people in the both the west of Scotland and the North of Ireland.

Celtic have their beliefs and we have ours, you must be an incredibly soft tw*t to worry about what they think. They have reasons like James McLean who gets slated a lot every year.
