A forum for all things Cardiff City

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade will hold crunch talks with star midfielder Mats Daehli next week as the Norwegian’s Bluebirds future looks increasingly uncertain.
Thursday 6th Nov 2014.
Daehli has found himself out in the cold in recent weeks and could now leave the club in the January transfer window if both parties decide it is for the best.
It is understood Cardiff would be willing to let Daehli leave if he wants an exit route, but they are determined to recoup the £2.5m they spent on the player in January.
Slade is keen to add one or two new faces to his squad after Christmas but he has been told he must cut his squad before any new signings are sanctioned.
While many Cardiff supporters will be disappointed at news of Daehli’s potential exit, there is no such surprise around the seemingly inevitable departures of Eikrem and Burgstaller.
Eikrem has failed to start a single league match this season while Burgstaller has made the starting XI just once in 16 matches against Huddersfield.
Other players who could potentially leave the club in January are Kim Bo-Kyung, Juan Cala and Javi Guerra who do not appear to be in Slade’s plans.

Not impressed by this at all.
These players could expect to have been given a chance under a new manager but have seemingly been frozen out completely without given any opportunity by Slade or the new management team to show what they can do.
That is poor management.

Disgrace in my opinion, prob one of our most talented players, worth £millions, we need players like Matt

Cardiff payed 500k ...and why next week? Daehli won't even be here then, he is doing internationals. Is Slade so coward he has to do it on the phone?

Its bullshit imo. He got me so excited last season i was looking forward to watching him grow as a player. No offence to players like Gunnar and Turner they put in a shift and have a great attitude. But its players like Matts and Ravel that makes me excited about the game. Also do we not have a youth policy at the club now? Why is Gabbidon on the bench and two talented teenagers are left out in every game??

he might 've talented but he's very lightweight for the championship and out of form

He's lightweight yes, but not out of form, he was excellent for Norway apparently but is played out of position when here. Be a shame to lose him

Will not be happy if he leaves. Daehli will only get better.

He will get better but I don't think he should be in the team above ravel

I go back to one of my previous post which referred to Matt Busby pursuading George Best to settle at Old Trafford when he was so unhappy he wanted to give up football for good. Best went on to be one of the Worlds greatest players.
I'm not stupid and know that Slades no Busby but for me Slades already made a few gaffs which have pursuaded me that he's no messiah.
I'd rather keep Daelhi and lose Slade. Managers from lower divisions are two a penny and most would flock to Cardiff.
Players like Daelhi, with huge potential (as well as being one of our best players currently) are few and far between.

When we had the mass shuffle and noone ended up as left back when Gabbidon was on the bench said all that is needed to me..

Ravel is 100% leaving in January, now they both are. Not even on the bench ahead of Gabbs?

Pity help us! Our only 2 creative players leaving in January!
Thu Nov 06, 2014 5:27 pm
Put him just behind the striker, at least give him a chance!

It's like Billy Cottles circus down there, joke absolute joke

Play him there or on the left side of midfield where he stars for Norway.

Agree ,having mats and ravel warming the bench is just insanity

UNBELIEVABLE ! ! !
we have next to none any players of class...and not only do we not pick him, but we want him to leave.
He was class last season, often coming on a sub. You could see the difference between him and the other players, and he is just a kid.
He came on at West Brom when we were struggling to keep the ball or do anything with it. Straight away he turned things round, tried something different, and we got a brilliant result.
I don't think Slade is showing up well in recent days which is surprising after the 3 home wins. Getting rid of players with class and a future, reeks of not going for the very best manager available and taking the cheap, option of his back room staff.
Marshall next ?

I'd much rather Daehli to Pilkington.
Thu Nov 06, 2014 6:35 pm
it must be me who thinks hes not suited to english football because most games i see him play he looses the ball about 4 or 5 times
Thu Nov 06, 2014 6:40 pm
4 or 5 in a match ???
that is not many......
but if he creates 4 or 5 chances is that a good trade off ?
He manages to handle international football ok.

It don't take a lot of brains to see the boy is class. One day he will be playing club football at the highest level

Noone lost the ball about 20 times on saturday. Kept running into defenders and loosing the ball.

I was more than prepared to give Mr Slade a chance, but the other side of that coin was I expected him to spend quality time evaluating the talent at his disposal and making judgements based on giving his whole squad the opportunity to impress. I know that time is short but it almost appears that anything slightly tainted with the Ole era is naturally "damaged goods".
This is probably the first time in our managers career that he has been exposed to a talent pool of this quality and diversity and my fear is that he has neither the experience or time allowed in the "Tan Plan" to manage this set of circumstances.
A real shame that may well end in mid table mediocrity.

I agree with you completely.

Losing Daehli will be the legacy Slade leaves behind, I think they will both be gone by Jan

Wow.

Nearly every post condems Slade for something that has not happened! Namely mats leaving? Ffs talk about hanging an innocent man!

why not wait and see what happens? Yes love to keep him but football is littered with players leaving one club but then going onto being great! Cantana/ bale need I go on? Bit of perspective wouldn't go amiss!
Thu Nov 06, 2014 7:36 pm
I couldn't give a monkeys about Cantona or Bale. They don't play for my club.
Sure Daelhi hasn't left yet. Realistically he will be gone in January though if he keeps getting ignored.
Remember this is the player who stayed with us when we went down when he could have gone almost anywhere else.
Thu Nov 06, 2014 7:39 pm
Surely if Ravel goes back from his loan then we will need Matts?
