Craig Noone - do we think he is better than he really is?

Wed Nov 05, 2014 10:58 pm

I have always rated Craig because he is lively , works hard , offers us pace and is one of our only players who can beat a man. However I was surprised to see in 7 starts and 1 sub this season he has no goals and no assists. Last season in 13 starts and 4 subs he only had 1 goal and 1 assist. This is a very poor return for an attacking winger. I would class him as one of our players who is premier league class but by looking at his stats - does he flatter to deceive or is it the fact that other players are not getting forward enough or in the right positions to take advantage of his crosses?

Definitely.

He came in last year and gave some good effort and performances when most of the team were playing very poorly, but he rarely got involved in scoring. Fair enough, it was at Prem level, but unfortunately it's the same story in the Championship.

He's a very inconsistent player. Great on his day, and not so much poor on others, but mores o completely average.

his best game was against Man City last season, truly outstanding that match :ayatollah:

Interesting question you pose, I don't think he will ever play at a higher level than Championship with a a few seasons in a PL squad if promoted, I can't see established PL clubs wanting him for the reasons given, i.e, a lack of assists and goals.

Such a great character, I hope Noone stays with us for along time to come :ayatollah:

He's struggled since his injury. I don't remember him beating his man since he's come back into the side.

Given free pass in the team from past credentials. No doubt about that.

He has saved 2 certain goals by clearing off the line this season.
Attacking wise he is a shadow of last season but hopefully will get better as he gets fitter.

As has Daehli, when he's played. Done nothing of note this season at all. Nooney has come in and out performed him, mind you that's not been particularly hard.

Matts end product is better. Matts has 2 assist, Nooney no assists, nor goals.

So by that logic Noone will be frozen out to and replaced by Burgstaller, and Cala will replace him at the bench?

No, he really is good. Just playing in a crap midfield.

HE was excellent last season when he was finally given a chance. Ok he didnt get many goals or assists but neitehr did the rest of the team. Last season he was the only player looking capable of causing teams any problems.

He hasnt started the best this season but he certainly has the quality, probably needs a goal but we have no compitiion in teh wide areas.

He flatters to deceive.

Very interested to see those goal and assist stats.

For me you can't be top class with only one foot. Against Bolton he moved over to the right quite often but he turns back inside EVERY time then over hits the ball which generally was going past the far post and out for a goalkick.

I know he has had an injury but to me looks a shadow of his former self, Cant beat a man and his crossing is woeful.

Confidence is the key, the squad struggle at times but wingers like him need it more than anyone.

He was inconsistent in the championship before we went up although did show signs of class. I think he's more suited to the pl

Very true.
He's played plenty now & can't use the injury as an excuse any longer.
He needs to start producing offensively now. I like Noone but believe he should be rested against Birmingham but brought back in depending on the result as we need him back to his best.
