' Russell Slade´s 20 mans squad '

Wed Nov 05, 2014 8:23 am

Considered which players been used so far, Slade´s 20 (21) mans squad looks to be:

David Marshall
Simon Moore

John Brayford
Fábio da Silva
Ben Turner
Bruno Ecuele Manga
Matt Connolly
Sean Morrison
Danny Gabbidon

Peter Whittingham
Aron Gunnarsson
Tom Adeyemi
Anthony Pilkington
Kim Bo-Kyong
Craig Noone
Joe Ralls
(Ravel Morrison)

Kennwyne Jones
Nicky Maynard
Adam Le Fondre
Fredrico Macheda

In addition, Dæhli and Guerra seem not to be left totally in the dark, as they have been in the brutto match squad, and Dæhli has also been on the bench. Dickgacoi might be included as well, if he´ll ever return from injury. Declan Jone is playing for the development team, so he might get a chance as well.

These players are left out in the dark:

Cala
Eikrem
Kiss
Burgstaller
Velikonja
Harris

(John)
(Guerra)
(Dæhli)
(Dikgacoi)

Well we don't need 5 centre backs for a start!
Out Gabbidon.

Bit inaccurate to say kimbo is in daehli is out. Kimbo has been on the bench twice, daehli 3 times. Kimbo hadn't played at all, daehli was a sub once. Daehli was in Bolton as part of the 20 man squad. But imagine if him and John gets sold and we keep gabbidon?

What frustrates me is that none of those players who are "out in the dark" appear to have been given a fair opportunity to prove themselves under the new manager.

Is that because Scott Young is the assistant? Is Slade being led by Young as to who he should include and exclude from the matchday squad?

Most new managers when they come in talk about wiping the slate clean, giving everyone a chance, wanting to see everyone in action etc but Slade appears to have come into the club with a preconceived idea of who he wants and who he doesn't want, and if you're not in with the in crowd you're going to get no chance to prove yourself.

Seems strange to me. We have two players, Daehli and Ravel who cannot get in the starting line up. One of them is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in European football, and the other was being talked about for international honours only last season.

How come neither can get a start against Millwall or Bolton?

Crazy.

I think Scott Young is having an influence on the squad selection , as his mate Gabbidon is constantly on the bench and Guerra has vanished.Scott Young strikes me as someone who lets his personal feelings cloud his judgement on what is best for the club
I think Scott Young is out of his depth personally and should be nowhere near a championship club as an assistant manager , especially when Port Talbot sacked him!

I think you're right, this is Scott Young's doing. In my opinion, as it is early doors, Slade has decided to be led by Young on who and who not to play, not to upset the platform Young had set down earlier. Its clear the likes of Kimbo, Guerra, Cala and Burgstaller were not Young's men but Gabbidon was. As we are led to believe Slade's best qualities are as a Man Manager he has decided to major on this aspect and leave the rest to Scott Young. The way the team is performing may be less to do with Slade than we think

Crazy.

You might have a point, but still, the latest team selections indicate that Dæhli is on his way out, while Kimbo is getting closer to be given time on the pitch.

Kimbo wasn't in the squad last week it's too early to tell. If it continues like that then I would agree.

My feeling exactly. Regarding Cala, there obviously must have been something going on behind the scenes. But my biggest empathy goes to Burgstaller who is new in this club and went from international duties for Austria to nowhere. And Eikrem seemed more than motivated to fight for a place when Solskjær left.

Are certain players being left outside because the new regime feels they are too much in love with the former manager?

More than happy for Gabbidon to be a coach but after watching the Bournemouth game in the cup he is possibly the worst football player I've ever seen (obviously not talking about the player he used to be)

Agree 100% mate. This was the main reason why I did not want Scott Young to be anywhere near our management team when Slade came in. I wanted Nugent to come with Slade and for Young to go back to the Academy. If Guerra was at any other club in this division he would be playing week in and week out for them. I'm not surprised if he has lost a bit of interest and/or does not show much in training. But, remember this guy was used to playing against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Valencia, Espanyol, etc, week in and week out, yet he comes here to the 2nd division of English football and cannot even get a place in a 20 man squad for games against the likes of Blackpool, Millwall, Bolton, etc. He is bound to get disillusioned with things. I feel for the guy as he is 33 now in the last year or two of his career and he cannot get a game. Also, that game he played against Bournemouth when Young slated him, there were others in that team who were just as poor yet some of them are still in the team. When he signed for us in the summer, there were a lot of Spanish reports saying that Guerra signing for us was a huge coup for us and many Spanish columnists were asked for their opinions on what was the best signing of a player that went from La Liga to the Premiership and quite a few said Javi Guerra to Cardiff City, even though they knew that Cardiff City were no longer in the Premiership but in the league below. Some of them when realising Cardiff were in the Championship, said categorically then now without a doubt, the best signing from Spain to England was Javi Guerra to us, as his movement, finishing, hold up play, bringing others into the game, goalscoring, etc would blow the Championship away. Personally, having watched him regular in La Liga last season, I am dumbfounded that he is not starting every game or even being on the bench. I mean why would we need 3 central defenders on the bench yesterday against Bolton? Ridiculous. Why couldn't we have Daehli and Guerra on there? If we had Ravel, Daehli and Guerra in the same team i think we would have no problems with scoring goals. Even if we were to go with one up front. The one thing that I was looking forward to changing at the club was that every player that Slade inherited would all be on an equal footing and every single player would have been given a chance to shine in the first team. Players like, Eikrem, Cala, Guerra, Burgstaller, Daehli (in some ways), Maynard, Kadeem Harris (we are crying out for having a pacey right winger and he fits the bill) and a few others, yet most of them have not been given a sniff. We are crying out for a defensive midfielder to replace Whittingham who should not be playing in that position. We do have one in Dickagcoi yet he still is injured or unfit or whatever the reason is this week. If he did get match fit then he should be the first name on the team sheet as he is a very good defensive midfielder, as he is great in that position.

Anyway, i'm off.

Bloooooobirds.

Why release Connolly? Maybe our best player this season before he got injured. He should be starting, in my opinion. No reason to release Gunnarsson either, unless we against every odds are playing in the Premier League next season. Then he should be left behind in the championship.
