' Just back from the game '

Wed Nov 05, 2014 12:53 am

From the perfect response to the absolute let down.

Basically we started cold, they were up for it and got a goal that usually happens when you make more effort. When we had the ball they closed us down with what seemed like 4 of their players around our guy with the ball. When they had possession their man on the ball seem to have all the time and space in the world.

We started to get into the game like some 20 minutes after the start. For a short period it felt like if we got the goal back we could take the game. Then we go and let another goal in from schoolboy errors in defence. How much do our guys get paid?

The second half we seem to attack more but got nowhere. Our strikers we are using are starting to grate me as they are turning out to be one huge disappointment. Lefondre must regret coming here because it is not working out for him and it is difficult to see how it will.

When they scored their 3rd goal which could be classed as against the run of play it became quite obvious that the home side took their foot of the pedal but got bored and decided to venture into our half because they knew they were going to score.

It is a long time since I heard comments like "lets get back on the bus and start the journey home" or "God I pray there is not much injury time". The best comment I heard was "its all gone wrong since we sacked Malky". I don't think anyone can disagree with that.

I've just got home, too. Agree with many of your points, but I'm too tired and cheesed off to think clearly now. Perhaps tomorrow!

Not being cynical, but in retrospect it could equally be argued that it has all gone wrong BECAUSE of Malky! :(

Not my particular opinion, but in truth we'll never really know!

Because if Malky had kept his nose clean, he might have been given until the end of the season (which I advocated at the time) and perhaps we might have stayed in the Premier League ;)

As I said, sadly we'll never know and I was just making the point that Malky played a leading part in his own downfall and may have actually started the 'domino' affect that has since followed; albeit that management decisions have hardly been inspiring since!

Or Malky could have manned up mid season when his misdealings were first discovered and gone then, instead of playing us all for fools until it was too late to save our season.

Maybe!

Exactly. It's all if's, buts and maybe's!

Agreed with most of the o.p. except the Malky bit. Great he took us up albeit relying on hard work and very little flair. When we got there he had a bigger budget to add quality to his squad than a lot of established teams and he decided to massively overspend on players who either were a disaster or barely exceeded our hopes. With the ability of hindsight I am not sorry he's gone.
Slade on the other hand is not going to be given such luxuries and needs to address our poor away form with the players he's got. As disappointing a performance as last night was if he can gee the players up and we manage to get a result on Saturday then 6 from 9 in a week will not be a bad return. Trying to be positive I know but looking back on the what might have been is pointless.

Kept his nose clean, you know something?

It is very clear it has all gone wrong since Tan sacked Malky. It was Tans decision so he takes the crap. To blame Malky for starting it is unbelievable specially as he got us to the premier and got us to the highest position in 50 years. Malky left us above the relegation zone in the best division in the world. We now find ourselves mid table, going no where in an in superior league and may I add spending just as much money than we did getting there in the first place.

I need a strong coffee after reading your statement there Sven.

Tan should have manned up more likely. He has gone public lately saying he wished he has sacked Malky earlier.

Malay played a huge part in his/our downfall.

A lot more will come out in time no doubt, glad he's gone I'd prefer to be mid table of a poor league
with a honest manager than fighting relegation in the best league in the world with someone with
the morales of Malky.

And he's also said the only reason he didn't is because the fans would have gone mental...

And I agree with him... if Malky had been sacked earlier in the season a large percentage of the fan base would have been up in arms without knowing what a bigoted cock end he is.

Tbh chap I'm not 100% sure about that.

I would of said if he sacked Malky after the Palace/Stoke games the opposition to him would have been far less. I know quite a few who were starting to question Malkys tactics then.

It was after those games Malky said we needed at least 3 more signings. Tan replied telling him were to go and the fans turned big time against Tan.

That's pretty much bang on Ian.
The majority of the fans would have accepted Malky being sacked after Stoke / Palace for football reasons ....... we were abysmal. By the time the Villa /Liverpool away games came along the "don't sack Mackay" bandwagon was in full swing, due to Tans relationship with Malky being played out in the media. The football was still shite but Malky was then being seen as a figure head to damage Tan. Us fans lapped it up and used it as a way to show our hatred of the re-brand.
Since then it has been a one way journey downhill with no real signs of improvement on or off the pitch :sad7:

Wouldn't say we sacked Malky, he got himself sacked.

A number of managers can be called that but its no serious reason to sack them.

Couple it with the fact that our performances had been shocking and the massive backhan... overspending... that occurred during the summer.

Buy a player for millions... keep him in the back room... sell him for a few million lost

Good report Ian and yeah it was me that said the comment about Malky and getting back on the bus  At the time I questioned Malkys tactics but in hindsight I was wrong. We didnt have the players to play tbe way we would of liked. I think it was a case of slowly building a team and make sure we stayed up. And I still think Malky would of kept us up. It was an awful performance but the whole day and the company made it a good trip only spoiled by the game. Nice to see you again Chief
