It's time for big Ben turner

Wed Nov 05, 2014 12:00 am

Although we've improved recently we've still let in goals every game and it got worse tonight. If you want to see a defender put his body on the line and not get bullied by target men like we have done this season (Craig Davies, jerome) then this man is the answer. He'll be like a raging bull when he's back in the team.

Yep I know plenty about football thanks, hence why I think Ben Turner is an excellent defender. Your opinion may differ but no need to be a total ar$e about it.

Turner is a far better defender than Morrison

Positioning, reading the game and far more experienced at this level

Will need game time and unlikely to get that under slade based on his first few games in charge

He's also vocal and puts his body in the line unlike Morrison who does way too much backing off for my liking

Glad someone agrees. We all get annoyed at him hoofing it but surely everyone can see he's a quality defender.

I agree about him being a good defender off the ball but I don't like Turner with the ball he panics to much and just hoofs it (usually straight back to the opposition) and invites more pressure onto us

The reason he needs to put his body on the line is because he is god awful at reading the play and is out of position continually. The only thing he has is his bravery in trying to correct his own errors. He's one of the worst professional footballers I've ever seen.

Turner is a top championship defender

Personally I'd play Connolly, Turner can't be fully fit yet surely.

But obviously keep him on the bench for upfront.

Ben Turner back in the team and we get our first clean sheet for a long time. You are always right Pontypool_Bluebird.

Re: It's time for big Ben turner

Turner in had nothing to do with a clean sheet, we would have come away nil nil with gains and Scott young at the back, brum were poor,

Turner is only good going back towards goal and making the thumping challenge...

On the ball he panics and gets rid as he cannot under any circumstances play with the ball. His reading and positioning is questionable in and around the box,,, Personally I think he's clumsy more times than often.

He is no where near a top central defender in the championship.

Re: It's time for big Ben turner

He or obviously did have something to do with it as he played as part of our back 4. I think people just love to hate and Turner is one some fans just won't like but with no actual reason. Connolly has had the same poor treatment of abuse from our fans but he hasn't let us down at any point since being here. So I was glad to see the pair of them start today.

Connolly was awful in the prem at right back.... However every time he has been called on this season he has put in a decent performance..

Turner is clumsy. With the ball at his feet he is like a rabbit in the headlights and has no idea what to do with it so hoofs it anywhere will do style. Going towards our own goal he can certainly make a crunching tackle at his best when in steamroller mode. In our box, his positioning and awareness is poor . I don't rate him I'm sorry. Morrison has a better football brain and manga is leaps and bounds above turner.

Brum have struggled in front of goal all season, hence the lowest tally of chances created and goals scored. While conceding the most this season. 29 goals... Our clean sheet today was more to do with a poor brum team rather than the addition of turner at centre back. We will see what happens now at the reading game, I feel we will be back to bypassing the midfield and thumping it back to the opposition inviting them back on to us time and time again while we sit deeper. Been here before.......

I have to agree with you Huw Turner is quite possibly the worst defender (Captain Scarlet Nugent aside) I have seen play playing for Cardiff continually at this level or the Premier league!

He always looks a little overweight to me, he has the pace of a tortoise, the touch of an elephant & he turns like the QE2. His only tactic when he gets the ball is to hoof as far up field as he can maybe an opening for him in the SPL would be more akin to his natural ability rather than the Championship or the Premier league!!!

A truly frightening thing if anybody remembers there was talk of him playing for Wales a few years :? ?!! Glad that never happened :D

Poppycock my arse. Too many Cardiff fans confuse Bravery and the willingness to dive into challenges as being the only quality required by a defender. They are most certainly not. Turner rates about 3-4/10 for positioning and also the same score for game smarts and reading of the play. He rates a 6-7 for recovery defence a 9 for commitment and a 0/10 for distribution (And that's being kind)

so far out of position that birmingham had no one on ones, marshall made no notable saves and we had a clean sheet. Say what you want about birmingham not scoring many, but its easy to get chances if a defender cant hold his position......

another point, no one is comfusing bravery and willingness as the required commitmemt but it goes a long way in this league because our championship winningn side was made up of those players...helguson connolly hudson turner cowie rudy superkev etc. Why are our team of superstars in mid table? Because we dont fight enough

Amen to that

Two different defenders in the back four and a clean sheet what does that tell you?

2 wins and a draw since we we got stuffed at Bolton, all 3 games coinciding with Fabio being dropped from the starting 11 and Ben Turner's return to the team! :D

Correct. Pity Marshall let that one through his legs v reading otherwise it would be 3 Turner appearances, 3 clean sheets. Connolly gets unwanted abuse too. U won't get a more solid defence than the back 4 that are starting at the moment.

The only thing I don't like about Ben Turner is his hoofball, it's so frustrating but having saying that he is strong defensively even if it is to clean up his own mess lol, in all seriousness we could do much worse than Big Ben.
